What a lovely day we had in Sale for Café Bridge. Almost 80 bridge players travelled from across the North West to take part, bringing together good bridge, good food and plenty of friendship.
The idea behind Café Bridge was to take bridge out of the traditional club setting and bring it into the heart of Sale. Players enjoyed their games across four fantastic local venues around Stanley Square: Canteena, Jenny’s Cafe and Bar, Wood Fire and Smoke and The Bubble Room.
It was wonderful to see bridge being played throughout the square, with tables full of players, cards being dealt and the familiar sound of bidding and conversation filling the cafés and restaurants. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day, with plenty of friendly competition and good humour around the tables.
The event also gave us a great opportunity to support and showcase some of Sale’s local businesses. Everyone enjoyed some lovely food and hospitality, and it was particularly nice to see the venues busy with bridge players throughout the day.

One of the nicest things about the day was seeing just how strong and welcoming the bridge community is across the North West. Players travelled from a wide area to enjoy the event, and the enthusiasm for the game was clear to see.
For us, Café Bridge was about much more than the results. It was about bringing people together, enjoying a game we all love, supporting local businesses and putting a little bit of life into the centre of Sale.
It was a memorable day, and we hope Café Bridge will return, giving us another opportunity to fill the cafés of Sale with bridge, friendship and plenty of friendly competition.
