Tonbridge Bridge Club

~

Constitution and Rules


1. The Club shall be called Tonbridge Bridge Club. Its aim is to provide facilities for and to promote the game of bridge. The Club is a no smoking Club.


2. The Club shall be affiliated to the English Bridge Union and shall issue Master Points for each qualifying session.

3. The Club year shall run from the beginning of September to the end of August.

4.       It shall be the duty of the Committee to:

a)      manage, regulate and generally supervise the affairs ofthe Club for the benefit of the Members

~

b)     prepare and set before the Members at the Annual General Meeting an Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet showing the Club’sfinancial position.

c)      To appoint an auditor of the Club’s annual accounts.

5.       Annual Subscriptions shall be due on 1st September each year. Members joining after 28th February shall only be liable for half the subscription for the current year. If subscriptions are not paid after the Treasurer has made application for payment, the defaulting Member shall cease to be a Member of the Club. The Committee may re-instate the Member on payment of arrears due, should they think to fit to do so under the circumstances.

6.       Every candidate for Membership must make application in writing to the secretary and the Committee must consider the application after the candidate's name has been displayed on the Club notice board for two sessions.

7.       Members shall be permitted to introduce guests into the Club except at such times as the Committee shall determine. No guest may play for more than four times in any one year after which he/she must apply to join the Club. The Committee may forbid the introduction of any person to the Club without assigning any reason.

8.       The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held after 1st September in each year, at such time as shall be fixed by the Committee, but not later than 31st October in each year. Fourteen days notice of the AGM shall be posted on the Club notice board.

The business of the Annual General Meeting shall be:-

~

a)      To receive from the Committee a report on the affairs of the Club in the past year.

~

b)      To elect the Officers and Committee.

~

c)      To transact any other business relating to the Club for which due notice has been embodied in the notice convening the meeting.

9.       ASpecial General Meeting may be convened by the Committee at any time and shall also be convened at the request of 25% of the Membership in writing specifying the business to be transacted at the meeting. Fourteen days’ notice of the meeting shall be posted on the Club Notice Board.

10.    The Club shall not be responsible for any damages, loss or injury sustained by any Member whilst on church premises or engaged in any of the Club’s activities, nor shall any Member have any claim against the Club or the Committee for any action taken in accordance with the rules.

11.    Members may from time to time delete and/or add to these rules at a General or Special Meeting.

~

12.    If at any time through the withdrawal of Members or other causes, it seems desirable to the Committee to dissolve the Club, they shall call a Special General Meeting and if two-thirds of the Members present and voting at such a meeting agree to dissolution, the Committee shall be empowered to dispose of the assets of the Club in such a way as the Meeting may determine.
