Tournament Director/Scorebridge :
Some members have asked why we do not have a non-member as Tournament Director on a Friday night. The cost of employing a Tournament Director for a non-Major competition, is approximately €100 per night. We are very fortunate in Templeogue College Bridge Club that we have several members who have offered their service to do Tournament Director and Scorebridge. As one of the smaller clubs in the Centre the cost would eat into our funds, we are trying the above this year to see if it works. We thank you for your patience and for the many members who help during the night with boards/money etc.
Financial matters
169 members have paid subscriptions. We now run 3 competitions on Friday night. More prize money is involved but we think it is fairer to the members in the A/B/N sections to run 2 competitions in that section.
New members
We have placed an advertisement for new members in some Clubs and in the Centre. If you know of anybody who may be interested (even if they have no partner), please ask them to contact Theresa Walsh on 086 4000 911 or walshtheresa15@gmail.com.
Temleogue Castle Community Bridge Club Update
The Committee met on 26th September and updated the club representatives on the progress on maintenance projects.
- Outside lighting - Completed
- Resurfacing the road around the centre building – This will be done in 2 steps. The paving has to be done first, then the tarmacadam. Paving will be done on 20th November. Tarmacadam will be done on the 27th/28th November (weather permitting). Bridge can proceed while the tarmacadam is being done.
- Painting the outside of the building – Completed. Templeogue House is owned by South Dublin County Council. Efforts will be made to have them paint it.
- Disabled toilet – new specification has been received and awaiting quotes for the work. Research is ongoing into whether a grant is available for this work.
- Bike Shed – base for shed will be laid when tarmacadam is being done.
- Ladies’ toilet – radiator has been moved. Awaiting quotes for replacing countertops.
- Disabled car park spaces need repainting – will be completed when tarmacadam is laid
Parking
Clubs were asked to remind members NOT to park at the back of the centre. This area belongs to St. Michael’s House.

Pat McGillion is stepping down from his role as Health and Safety Officer. Pat Marron is taking over the role. Pat (McG) will work with Pat (M) on health and safety matters for the rest of this year.

Punctuality: PLEASE be seated by 7.20pm. If your partner has not arrived, check they are coming and let the TD know.
Boards: Misboarding causes a lot of problems for the Tournament Director and the players in general. If you are in the NORTH position, please keep an eye on the players at your table and ensure they replace the cards in the right section.
SLOW PLAY: We have received several complaints about slow play. 3 boards should be played in 21 minutes. This is possible, the problem seems to be the ‘postmortems’ after each game. All it takes is one table to fall behind and the problems arise.
SIT-OUTS: If you are on a sit out, can you remember that other members are playing beside you and to keep your voices to a minimum.
