TOLLEMACHE TROPHY |
 |
Fine performance from Jane Moore & David Price |
The qualifier for the Tollemache Trophy (County Championship) took place on the weekend of 17-18 November in Daventry (Rick Hanley writes).
The Suffolk team were at full strength but could manage no better than 7th equal place out of the eight teams in their section and consequently failed to qualify for the final.
Matches against the leading teams (Berks & Bucks, Merseyside, Avon, Derby) were associated with a series of heavy defeats. Suffolk did manage victories over Norfolk and seeds Lancashire but suffered an agonising 9-11 defeat to Northants after building up a good lead with only a few boards to play. The two victories owed a great deal to fine performances from David Price and Jane Moore who gave sterling service to the team by playing all 98 boards and finished towards the top of the overall cross-imp table.
Suffolk team : Chris Chambers, Peter Gemmell, Rick Hanley, Jane Moore, Eric Newman, Jeff Orton, David Price, Karen and Malcolm Pryor, Michael Sherer.
