SUFFOLK CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING HEATS
Helen Mason will be the Event Manager for the SCBA Championship Pairs for this season, with Jo Harpur providing support.
This is an invitation to all SCBA Affiliated Clubs to hold one or more Heats of the 2021-22 SCBA Championship Pairs. This invitation is going to those listed by their club as the club contact on the SCBA website, plus in some cases one additional contact at the club who has expressed interest in receiving SCBA communications to clubs.
For obvious reasons many clubs are at different stages regarding their mix of Face to Face and On-Line Bridge. For that reason we are offering Clubs who would like to hold one or more Heats maximum flexibility.
Any Club wishing to hold one or more Heats should email HELEN MASON with the details of the date and time, who will be directing, and whether or not the Heat is restricted to bona fide members of the Club.
Here are the broad guidelines and relevant information.
1) The Club must be Affiliated to the EBU
2) It is entirely at the Club’s discretion whether to restrict entries to a Heat to bona fide members or to allow visitors
3) It is entirely at the Club’s discretion whether to hold a Heat Face to Face or On-Line (or hybrid)
4) Heats may be played on any day in October, November or December 2021
5) Any pair wishing to attempt to qualify at a designated Heat of the Championship Pairs must indicate their intention to the Director before play starts
6) Both members of such a pair must have primary affiliation to Suffolk
7) No player may attempt to qualify in more than one Heat during the 2021-22 season, either with the same partner or with another partner
8) Nearly all Heats will include players not attempting to qualify in that Heat; this is normal, and it allows Clubs to designate a Club session to be a Heat without worrying about a reduction in attendance
9) For those pairs who have indicated their intention to attempt to qualify at a specific Heat a 50% score or higher is required to qualify
10) Once a qualifying Heat has been held the Director of the Heat should email Helen Mason confirming all pairs who attempted to qualify in the Heat, listing those that obtained a score of 50% or more, and also those who scored less than 50%; IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT EMAIL ADDRESSES OF QUALIFIERS ARE INCLUDED.
11) SCBA is maintaining maximum flexibility regarding the Semi-Final and Final of the Championship Pairs. Face to Face venues have been booked, however SCBA may run the Semi-Final and Final as hybrid events (i.e. some players playing Face-Face and some players playing On-Line, with the results merged). In some situations one or both of the Semi-Final and Final may be played entirely On-Line. The Face to Face bookings made are: Semi-Final, Sunday February 6th 2022, Elmswell, 11 a.m.; Final Sunday, Sunday April 10th, Nayland, 11 a.m. 6/1/22 UPDATE: Due to the ongoing Covid situation, the Semi-Final and Final will be played online on BBO starting at 11.00am on Sunday February 6 and Sunday April 10, respectively.
