Learning & Improving
Learning Bridge

Bridge is a great game although it takes a while to learn. At Stratford Bridge Club we have developed a programme that teaches, and then supports students to play through Assisted Play and Improvers Sessions.

Bridge is a sociable game so, through the learning process, you’ll make many new friends who you’ll be playing with for years to come.

Learning to play

We teach using the EBU (English Bridge Union) programme.  We encourage students to purchase the EBED Red Book in year 1 and the Green book to support year 2.

In  year 1 teaching  we have developed a workbook for each term which is part of the term price.  The workbook includes all the handouts for lessons, homework and glossary of terms.  We also offer students the opportunity to attend both classes, so helps if you miss a session but can attend the other session.   Students can go to both lessons, this really helps understand and consolidate the knowledge. See more details in the tabs.

The programme starts by assuming you have never played before. It enables you to build the foundations on which to start playing.  We start with MiniBridge and we encourage beginners to undertake the free section on No Fear Bridge to help those first couple of lessons.

All our lessons are interactive with plenty of teaching, exercises and play with pre-prepared hands.

To support lessons, we encourage students to get together to practice and also run
a number of Assisted Play sessions at the Club.
