History of the club

This club  was formed in 1971, building on foundations laid by two business related clubs, local competitions and a need to progress those learning bridge. It grew quickly, meeting twice a week in the Red Horse Hotel (now Marks & Spencer's) Subs were £2.50.
A first Stratford Bridge Congress was held in 1977 prize money totalling £750. This became a popular national event attracting many players of international repute, including Omar Sharif.

At the AGM in 1980 it was proposed that the club established a permanent home, and the Holtom Street site was acquired from Warwickshire County Council. £50,000 was raised and building could commence with the mayor laying the first brick on 19 July 1982.
The new club boasted a playing area of 20 tables, a bar, kitchen and toilets. A programme was drawn up to provide bridge at all levels as well as social activities.  Since then, the club has been extended and adapted to meet ever changing needs but remains largely the same in its convenient location in the Old Town with our own parking.

Today the club has 374 members and was ranked #16 nationally (by player numbers) by the EBU in 2023.
