It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Angus Stewart on Sunday 3rd November. It is coincidental that Fr Mc Gonagle had to announce his death at the Mass at the Donegal Congress which Angus attended annually during his Bridge playing life.
Angus was always a card player and liked nothing better that a game of 25, Solo or Whist. Fr Mc Gonagle taught Angus and four others the game of Bridge over a ten week period between Christmas and Easter in 1987. This set Angus off on a whole new path in his card playing life. He travelled to all the Open Cups throughout Donegal and the Donegal Congress each year. He was a member of the Strabane Bridge club and was always in at 7pm to set up the venue for the game at 7.30pm. He had many roles in the club, President , Assistant Treasurer and Sweet provider( liquirice allsorts!!!) each week. He also was a member of Raphoe Bridge Club where he carried out his duties diligently as Sercretary in recent years and also had the sweets!!!! He and his partners won various cups along the way the first being the Snodgrass Cup in the late eighties and the last in Strabane was the Summer Cup in 2018.
Angus loved his cards and many a cross word was exchanged over a bad lead/play etc!!!!! He was always a worker, personable, witty, well dressed and willing to drive anyhere for a good game of cards. Our Bridge world is sad today at his loss but Angus will surely meet up with all those card players who have gone before him to their eternal reward.
We in Strabane Bridge Club offer our deepest sympathies to Anne his wife, Catherine, Hugo, Andrew, Dermot , grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters on the death of Angus a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to so many Bridge players throughout Donegal, Derry and Tyrone.
May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.
Congratulations to Pat Mc Daid and Michael Peoples winners of the Mc Cay Cup .
