We love special games and we have a series of them coming up.
Kory Solarz Knockdown Tournament
On Wednesday, August 26, we will hold the 4th annual Kory Solarz Knockdown Tournament. After Scott announced the game last Monday, the eight tables filled immediately with several players shut out from playing, Scott has since figured out a way to expand the game to 12 tables and we still have a few spots open. The potluck will start at 5:15 and the game at 6:00. Alcohol will be permitted. If you are interested in playing, contact Scott to reserve your spot. We need to fill 12 tables or we will have to scale it back to 8 tables and some people would be unable to play.
This will be the first time the game will be held without Tom Buttweiler who was instrumental with establishing the game.
Mentor Game
Our special Wednesday game for September will be on September 9th. It will be a mentor game where newer players will partner with more experienced players. Find a partner on your own or sign up at the club. We are really in need of experienced players to play so please help out our newer players by signing up!
Harvest Moon Festival
Our annual Harvest Moon party will be held on Monday, September 21st. Come for this free meal together and hear Scott’s annual review and preview re: our Club.
The meal will be served at 5:00 PM. The game starts at 6:00, with the usual charge to play. Anyone (you, your spouse or partner) who doesn’t wish to play is invited for the meal! If not a club member, your guest will be charged $15 for their meal. Last year we had had 22 tables of bridge; our goal this year is 23!
Remember there is no afternoon game and the evening event will consist of both an open and a 299er game. Sign up at the club or let us know that you are playing so we can order the right amount of food. See you there!

| A Loss of a Friend |
 Our good friend and bridge player extraordinaire, Dennis "Duffy" Dufner passed away on August 18th. For the past two years, Duffy has been making a trek up to St Cloud once a month from New Prague to play at the Thursday night game and then play both sessions on the first Friday of the month. Playing at the Thursday, August 6th game with John Koch, Duffy was not feeling well and headed back home. He was admitted to the hospital at Mayo the next day.
Dennis was a long time partner of Kory Solarz in Northern Minnesota and moved to St Cloud with Kory's encouragement after Kory moved here. He played here for many years even after moving to the Twin Cities. He stopped playing here for a few years after moving to Southern Minnesota to be closer to family. Two years ago, he started coming up once a month to play in the trio of games, playing with either Scott Krupke, Mark Doucette, or John Koch.

| How much do we love to play bridge? |
Clearly, we love to play bridge; we show up! In the first 7 months of the year, we have had 1094 tables of bridge played at the club. That is over 23% higher than the 888 tables we had in the first 7 months of 2025. And it is higher than the number of tables we had in ALL of 2024! At the current pace, we should finish the year around 1900-2000 tables. Now if we could just figure out a way to keep the snowbirds in Minnesota, we might go over 2000!
