Teams of 4 Notes Nov 2020
Guidance for Teams of Four

TEAMS of FOUR FOLLOW THESE NOTES

Your team captain will have told you in advance the start time, who you are playing and whether you are to go to the A or B table. He will also have given you the alias of the table starter.

A few minutes before the designated start time enter BCL and click on Teams of Four room. You should have ready access to the phone whose number you have given to your team captain. There may be a number of tables with people sitting around them and at the very top left there will be a table without a number called 'Start a Table.' You are now in the right place but the view of the room on your computer screen is 'frozen' and will not show any new A & B tables that have been started since you joined the room. The only way to update this screen is to press the 'Refresh' button at the top of the screen and to keep doing so every few seconds.

  1. The home team captain will be checking (in Local Club) and when he sees that all eight of you are in the room he will send a 'chat' message asking his nominated team member to start a table.
  2. He 'starts a table' and this immediately opens TWO tables, A & B with the same number. The table starter will be seated North on table A.
  3. There are two ways for you to see that your tables have been started, one is to see the home team captains message in the chat box and the other is to see a new A table with the table starter sitting North. If you do not keep watching the chat box and keep regularly clicking on 'Refresh' you will only be aware that you should have taken your seat when your captain rings you up.
  4. From here the computer is in charge. Your SSD cards will be automatically presented for you to approve. Once this is done North and South press'Ready.'
  5. The computer will now move players to their places for the first 4 boards.
  6. Once all eight players have pressed 'Ready' after finishing the fourth board the computer will move players to play their second set of four boards. There will be a delay while the table finishing first waits for the second table to finish. Just sit in your place and wait, do not leave the table at this stage, the computer will move you when both tables have finished the fourth board.
  7. At the conclusion of the second set of four boards the computer will announce 'Last board played - This team table is now finished' You will now press 'Leave Table' and wait for the other table to finish. Again there may be a delay, just wait patiently. Having left your table you will automatically be lurking in the Teams of Four room. DO NOT WANDER OFF, OR TRY TO JOIN YOUR ORIGINAL HOME TABLE. You need to proceed as at 1. above, watching for a chat message asking the home teams nominated individual to start a table and also refreshing frequently looking out for a new table A with the designated starter sitting North.
  8. The computer treats this second set of eight boards as a new match and so you need to follow steps 2 to 7.
  9. This time after playing the eighth board the match will be ended, so you exit from the Teams of Four room and either log out of BCL or follow the instructions 'Getting your Results'

Notes to turn off the adverts and the annoying "ping" every time one comes through.

  1. Log on
  2. Go to play bridge & into the room you are going to play in - screen will show the tables.
  3. Click on the blue "cog" in the bottom right hand corner
  4. This will open up "chat options" in the area above the "chat",.
  5. Click on "do not show adverts" & the symbol will turn from blue to black - The annoying "ping" will stop & the amount of Chat will reduce considerably making it easier to see messages from the organiser.
