Robins Lesson 05-05-22
Robin's Lesson 5th May

A few notes on this week's hands, which were obviously very difficult. If you got a couple right, then well done.

Hand 1 - Competitive bidding

Competitive to 4;  West happy to bid twice. On a spade lead, play AK clubs (overtaking), and discard a spade on the club. Ruff 2 hearts in dummy. DO NOT DRAW trumps immediately!

Hand 2 - Which 4 card suit to open

Prefer 1♣ with a strong hand, allows red suits to be bid naturally at 1 level (!!!!!)
North bids 1! Why  - North wants more information.
North bids 4th  suit forcing. South is now forced to game, so needs only to bid 2NT.
North agrees clubs  with 3♣
South bids RKCB.  North shows 2 Kings.
br South bids slam.

Hand 3 - Could be competing against a weak 2 opening

Alternative bidding sequence if N opens a weak 2 and East overcalls 3NT.

Hand 4 - Can 12 tricks be made on any lead?

... but slam not bid
