Alerts and Announcements

With effect from 1st September 2022, the EBU has revised its rules on alerts and announcements.
Most of the new announcements that have to be made, affect those who play transfers after a 1C opening, or play 2 over 1 (the system that robots play on BridgeBaseOnline).
One interesting change is that you no longer announce the point range after opening a strong, balanced 2NT.
So, for most of us, there’s not much of concern.

Remember, when it’s your turn to bid, if you need to know you can always ask your opponent what their partner’s bid means.
There is still no requirement to alert/announce the meaning of a jump overcall. Although the modern way is to play it as weak, we still have members who play it strong.

This can catch you out, so we suggest you always check.

Reminder

We would ask players to try to take their places 10-15mins before 7.00pm to allow time for the organisers to set out the correct table movement. If you are aware that you are going to be delayed please contact the club to let them know you are on your way.

In memoriam
Sad News

We are sorry to have to have to inform you that

Tony Scott, one of the founders of our bridge club, and a former chairman, sadly passed away on Saturday, 21 May 2022. 

He was well respected and a friend to many, and a good turn out from the Club is expected at the funeral, which is scheduled for 2.00pm on Friday 10 June at Mansfield Crematorium. 

For those who may be attending, May, his widow, has intimated that donations in Tony's memory, will be passed on to the John Eastwood Hospice. 

The Club will be making a donation on behalf of all members.

At our Monday night session on 16th December 2019, all present enjoyed some refreshments (both solid and liquid) as we celebrated the life of Fay, a long-time member and good friend who, at ninety years of age, recently passed away.

Her family had forwarded a monetary contribution for this precise purpose in recognition of the many happy times that Fay had enjoyed as a member of South Mansfield & Blidworth Bridge Club.  

Jan Fraser did an excellent job in organising both this event and, taking account of the fact that Fay was also a regular attender at Friday night sessions, a similar one was held on Friday 20th December 2019.  

We would like to thank Fay's family for giving us the opportunity to commemorate Fay's life and friendship. We miss her.
