Teams League

The club is considering establishing a teams league in Autumn. The standard team of four would compete, once a month, probably on a Wednesday evening.

So as to encourage members at all levels, each team would have to be made up of a limited number of higher ranking players and include some lesser rated players.

Each team would come from a squad of five, six or even seven players to provide flexibility and would have a skipper/manager to organise their team.

So we need expressions of interest promptly. Totally without obligation come on, it could be fun, so get a team together and if enough people respond we will proceed and more details will emerge but, at the moment all we want is for people to put their hands up so we can gauge viability. If you are curious as an individual or a pair that's fine too, get in touch.

To show your interest click on the email: bill.abbot@icloud.com We look forward to seeing lots of replies!

Going Cashless

Following the general support at the AGM, the Club is looking to take table money receipts by card from September. Details are still to be finalised and we will keep you advised of developments.

Refreshments

Table money helps cover a number of Club costs and also allows provision of a drink and biscuit. We are finding that some members are taking advantage of this situation and ask that, particularly during periods of hot weather, members who require more drink either bring their own, which can be left in the fridge, or contribute 50p towards the cost. An honesty box will be provided for this purpose.

New Players

Colin Darling's classes will be taking a break over the summer and his students are encouraged to join some of the other sessions. If you come across a 'newbie' they will no doubt be very nervous so please introduce yourself and be as encouraging as possible. These people are the future of our Club.

Did you know.......The Definition of Claiming:

A claim is a statement that a player will win a specific number of tricks, either by winning all remaining tricks or by winning a specified number while conceding the rest.

The player making the claim must clearly state their intended line of play, including the order in which they will play their cards. For example a declarer might say, "I'll draw trumps, then finesse the jack of diamonds, and take the rest of the tricks".

Law 70C says that the opposing team can be awarded a trick when no explanation of how cards were to be played was immediately forthcoming.
