Extra Point Games
On Tuesday, July 16 at 11:30, we will have an NAP qualifying game. Extra points for the winners, and card fees are $1 extra.
Friday, July 19 at 11:30 we will have the monthly Unit Game. More extra points for the winners, and no extra card fees.
We are going to have a new extra points opportunity at the club from July 29 to August 2 (Monday to Friday). This is called REACH, it is run by the ACBL. The extra points are GOLD and RED. Usually, players must attend regional and national tournaments to earn gold and red points, so this is a wonderful program allowing players to compete for those points at the club level. See below for details and how to sign up.
In order to participate in REACH and earn gold/red points, a player must register online with the ACBL and pay a $30 fee. Registration is now open, and will close on July 28 at midnight PDT. REACH is an individual program; your partner does not have to register and pay for you to be eligible for the awards. But both members of the partnership must be ACBL members in order for a score to count for REACH (but this does not apply to the black points in the club game).
The boards used for REACH games are from The Common Game. The club game is scored normally, with black points for the winners. Once the club game is sent to the ACBL, all the scores earned by REACH participants will be grouped into pools and re-scored. The winners of the pools will win gold and red points in addition to the black points they earned at the club.
REACH participants must play a minimum of 2 REACH games in any club that participates in REACH. The games do not have to be in the same club. The ACBL will average the player’s 2 highest scores in REACH games to decide the winners of gold/red points. If you register and pay the $30 fee, you can maximize your chances of earning the gold/red points by playing in as many REACH games as you can. If you play in 5 games, your 2 best games will be put into the pool, and the 3 lowest scores will be disregarded.
The ACBL has said that of the approximately 3200 players in the last REACH event, 760 of them were awarded gold and/or red points. Those are pretty good odds.
As a summary:
1. Play at a club offering REACH games. SBBC will be offering morning REACH games from Monday to Friday at the regular game times. The dates are Monday, July 29 at 11:30; Tuesday, July 30 at 11:30; Wednesday, July 31 at 11:30; Thursday, August 1 at 10:30; and Friday, August 2 at 11:30.
2. Check that your ACBL Member dues are up-to-date.
3. Register with the ACBL to play in REACH. You can find the registration page at acbl.org.
4. Play in two or more REACH games, in one or several clubs. As usual, you’ll pay the club entry fee and compete for black points.
5. That’s it!
The club will submit the game results so the ACBL can calculate overall awards once REACH is over. REACH participants can play in up to six sessions (five at SBBC), but only the two best scores are used to calculate overalls.
