Treasurer's report 2018

Annual subscriptions. 60 members this year, down from 61 last year, so quite steady but certainly gives us scope for encouraging any potential new members.

Joining fees.  5 new members joined in 2017, compared to just 3 in the previous year.

Table money.  Table money was slightly up on last year with an average attendance of 7.0 tables per evening compared to 6.9 tables in the previous year.

Simultaneous Pairs. We had 6.5 tables for the Ecats Simultaneous Pairs (7.5 last year). In addition to the recommended £3 per head donation we received extra donations which were passed on to Ecats for Children in Need.

Bank interest. This is again very little as interest rates are so minimal.

Hire of hall.  No change from last year, the Hall hire remaining at £45 per evening.

Catering. No cost again this year as the refreshments that were provided at the half time break have not been recommenced.

Xmas party. No particular comment but cost to the club kept to a minimum as all the food was provided by members.

Accessories. This comprised £33 for new rules books for the Directors and the balance was for playing cards and table stationery.

Training.  None this year or last.

Administration costs. All for printing costs of AGM material.

Simultaneous Pairs. The net cost of this event to the club is £21, which is in respect of the booklets. The £114.50 figure shown here is because we also pay over the donations that were received and shown as income of £93.50.

Miscellaneous expenses. None this year or last.

Insurance.  Very similar to last year.

Summary. We had a deficit for the year of £148, giving us a year ending bank balance of £608.

2018.  A budget has been prepared for 2018 assuming 7 tables average attendance along with unchanged table fees and annual subscriptions (£1.50 and £5 respectively) and unchanged hall hire cost. The result is a forecast deficit for the year of £500, leaving us with £108 in the bank account at the end of 2018.

It is my view that the table fee should be increased to £2 to prevent a depletion of funds and so maintain our good financial position.
