Swiss Basics
Posh's Ten Golden Rules
by Posh Gulati, MD
Introduction
- Extremely enjoyable and less taxing. Oldest and Best players in the world prefer IMPs over matchpoints.
- 4-6 players; each player plays half the matches to be in the overall; 6 Boards x 6 Rounds (3 before and 3 after lunch).
- check your Team Number and jot in the top right corner of your scoresheet.
- Check your assignments; Director posts assignments randomly for the first round, followed by top1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6 etc, you may have a round robin if there is an odd number of teams
- Proper etiquette: North to send the boards when you are done call "Caddy Please".
- Compare your score at you home table and see how many net imps you won or lost by.
- Victory Scale Conversion
- Always a SCRAMBLE AT THE END (LAST ROUND ESPECIALLY)
Important Examples and Considerations:
You make 2 spades for 110 and your partners at the other table go down one in 3 hearts (Non Vul)
110 - 50 = 60. You win 2 Imps (Check the table).
You make 2 spades for +110 and your partners make 3 hearts for +140.
110 + 140 = 250. You win 6 imps.
You make 4 spades for 420 and your partners were minus 430 at the other table.
420 - 430 = -10. What's net imp gain in imps?
What if partners were - 450, your net gain is -30. What's your net gain in imps?
