Welcome to Sun City Grand Bridge Club

Weekly News Items

THERE  IS NO BRIDGE AT SUN CITY GRAND
U
NTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Important messages from Jim Kelso, Bridge Club President, dated 9/12/2020.

This is the time of year we normally greet you, welcome back our snowbirds, and tell you about the Bridge Club schedule for all Social, Marathon and ACBL games.  Well, obviously, this year is very different.

On September 10th I attended, via Zoom, the Charter Club Presidents meeting.  My impression is that CAM staff and the SCG Board of Directors are working extremely hard to reopen clubs and other activities in a manner that is safe for all, following Arizona State guidelines. They stressed, as do I, that everything said today could change, depending on the Covid situation.

Several clubs have resumed activities with limitations.  The Chaparral building is open only to the Billiards Club and the Computer Club.  The Apache, Pima and Hopi rooms remain closed for card games and other close proximity activities. At this time, my best guess is no card games will be permitted until at least early 2021. When we resume, we may need to limit the players in the rooms, and the following would be required:

Signed SCG Liability Waivers for all players
Masks for all players - no exception
Hand Sanitizer at all tables, to be used frequently

There are rules about club meetings and elections, but due to the current situation, CAM is permitting flexibility, so our election normally held in December will be delayed until sometime 2021.

If you have any bridge friends who do not have email, please inform them of the current status.

ACBL FREE MEMBERSHIP OFFER

In the meantime, for those of you who are not yet playing bridge on BBO, I encourage you to try it.  You can play with your friends, with robots or with strangers.  You can play solitaire.  Much of it is TOTALLY FREE.  There are also ACBL games.  BBO and the ACBL are working closely to provide bridge during this unusual time.  The ACBL is offering A FREE FOUR MONTH MEMBERSHIP TO NEW MEMBERS.  If you are interested, please see the link below.

NEW BOARD MEMBER
Also, I am pleased to announce that Bruce Ketcham, a long time member of our club, has agreed to assume the duties of our club Treasurer effective October 1st, 2020 continuing until December 2021.  Welcome Bruce and thank you for stepping forward.

Bruce will replace Brad Bowker who has served with distinction as our club Treasurer since 2018.  Brad along with his wife Barbara have relocated out of Sun City Grand and are ineligible to continue SCG Bridge Club membership.

I wish you all good health and look forward to the day when we can resume SCG Bridge Club activities.
