CALENDAR REMINDERS

Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12: Sectional in Arroyo Grande               
Tuesday, April 21: Third Tuesday night 2500 game and potluck. Theme: Springtime Favorites. Dinner at 5:15, game at 6:00 pm.

 Sunday, April 26: Online Bridge Skills class on using various internet tools and applications to improve your Bridge skills. $20.

Friday, May 1: Happy 50th Birthday, Santa Barbara Bridge Center.

We will celebrate with a catered dinner following the afternoon games. Spouses and partners are invited. No charge to attendees.

 Sunday, May 3 from 5:00-8:00 Board and card game night and potluck. Postponed.

             June 15-19 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Beginning Bridge Camp for Kids.
Ages: incoming 7th through 12th graders. Mature/math-savvy 5th and 6th graders are also welcome.
Volunteers are needed. Please see Liz Heron or Carol Rezek for more details
about volunteering or the camp in general. $100/camper. Scholarships are available for those who require financial assistance.

 EDUCATION AND CLASSES

Mentored workshops:
Players of all levels are encouraged to drop in
Saturday mornings 9:30-11:30 for mentored play. $10/session. Please carpool.
  For the next several weeks, Christian Gilles will start the session
with a brief lesson on a specific topic. The boards for that day will be related to that lesson.
The schedule follows: 4/4 Responding to 1NT openings: Stayman, Jacoby, etc. Part 1

4/11Responding to 1NT openings: Part 2
4/18 Doubles: Take out and Negative: Part 1
4/25  Doubles: Take out and Negative: Part 2
5/2 Opening a Major (1M) and follow up
5/9 Opening a minor (1m) and follow up
5/16  Preemptive openings
5/23  Strong openings and slam bidding 

Beginning Bridge Classes: Pat McCready’s current Beginning Bridge class will end on April 4, 2026.
She will host 2 separate classes on Stayman and Jacoby Transfers on April 11 and April 18.
  Each class will cost $10.  Pat’s next series of classes, “Play of the Hand”, will start on May 9 and conclude on June 27. It will cost $100.


       Ronnie Morris Drop-in Classes on Specific Topics:  
A new series of 10 classes will resume on June 25. Full details will be in the June newsletter and posted at the Club.                      

      
Online Bridge Skill-Building 1/2 Day Lecture Taught by Lynda Weinman

Sunday, April 26th 1 PM - 4 PM | $20 Using on-line tools and applications to improve your Bridge skills

Learn how to use online bridge platforms to strengthen your bidding, defense, and play.
This seminar will cover ways to practice solo or with a partner, whether for learning, casual play, or earning points.
We’ll also explore useful tools, online teachers, videos, and how AI can support your Bridge development.
We will take a deep dive into hidden gems and tips for BBO, ACBL, BridgeBum,
BakerBridge, SharkBridge, RealBridge, YouTube, membership sites, ChatGPT and more.

Join this 3-hour lecture and Q/A session to build online Bridge skills
into your overall Bridge toolkit. All skill levels welcome!
Please do not bring a device to class, as thorough hand-outs will be included
and our wifi strength will only allow the teacher to be online.
The large monitor will be used and teacher will have a microphone.
Please bring your questions, your curiosity, and your learning mindset.

Barbara Seagram is an internationally known Bridge teacher from Toronto.
She has made 2 of her videos available to the Santa Barbara Bridge Center,
Declarer Play and Slam Bidding. Barbara has agreed to donate all fees to our Bridge Center.

Gold for Good is an ACBL fundraiser benefitting the ACBL Charity Foundation,
which helps communities recover and rebuild after disasters. If you register to participate
in Gold for Good and play in at least two qualifying pairs games during the
week of April 20-25, you could win bonus GOLD points on top of your regular masterpoint award.
The registration fee is $30 (this is in addition to the regular club card fee).
This is an individual event and not a club event. You must be an ACBL member
to register but your partner does not have to register nor be an ACBL member.
Individuals who wish to participate must register before midnight (ET) on April 19.
