Alan is an ACBL-certified instructor, specializing in teaching intermediate and advanced players.  He teaches groups, pairs and individuals, focusing on 2/1 with forcing 1NT.

Alan starting playing bridge in High School.  He joined the bridge and chess club only to find that there was nobody to play chess with, but the girls were playing bridge.  Needless to say, he joined in.  He became a life master in the 1970's.  In 1983, at the summer nationals in New Orleans, playing with a team that had never played together before, he won his first national event...the Master Mixed Teams.  He stopped playing competitively shortly thereafter, continuing the practice of law and raising his family.  He returned to bridge after an almost thirty year absence in 2011 and became a director and instructor at the Sagamore club in New York. Alan and his wife Jeanne Hanrahan, also a club member, moved to Savannah in 2022.
