Match update and draw |
Eventually Michael Bailey and David Manooch ran out of cards and succumbed to Tony Scouller and Ross Cope. Tony Scouller had this to say:-
Much amusement was caused early on with honours claimed on the first five hands – in one instance by the defence!
There was nothing very interesting or particularly competitive nor any slams so that after the three hours elapsed Michael & David were down by three rubbers to one but still had a slim chance on the aggregate and elected their right to play four more boards.

Tony opened 1S and N came in with 2C then 2D – 4C (splinter) -4H – 4NT - 5S (two keys and QD) now Tony strongly believed that he should bid 7D but given the state of the match bid the secure 6D – chicken!
Opponents retired forthwith and the winners bought the drinks in the Long Bar! Great fun and played in the right spirit.
