Club members Richard Horsley, Jeff Calladine and Alan Kenny, with Malcolm Young, won the Swiss teams of 4 competition at the Malvern congress on October 27th, 2008. They were first out of 72 teams. The result was close as another team was equal on points. Our men had beaten the team equal with them on points and hence won the competition. The trophy they were presented with is known as the Cattanach Quaich
Congratulations to Roy Wood, who with won Ray Jolland, won the DCBA Men’s pairs on Wednesday 23rd July 2008, thus winning the Dodson Shield.
Club member Alan Kenny, with Malcolm Young won the Leicestershire One day Swiss pairs competition at Spondon on March 8th 2008. They were 1st out of 58 pairs.
On Friday August 1st, club members Richard Horsley, Jeff Calladine and Alan Kenny, with Malcolm Young, came second equal out of 68 teams in the Scarborough Congress multiple teams of 4 competition. They were just 1 imp behind the winners. The winning team included former club member Ron McEwan.
On Sunday May 4th, 2008, club members Gary Watson and Alan Kenny, with Malcolm Young and Miranda Vinecombe, won the Oxfordshire County Invitation teams, where they were representing Derbyshire. They were presented with the Beck Cup.
The most successful member of the club was the England International, John Armstrong, who died in July 2008. Among the highlights of his career was a silver medal in the World championship and Gold and Silver medals in the European Championships.
