Area Master and Intermediate Teams

Rules and Procedures

  1. Regent Open Teams Leagues
    1. The Area Master and Intermediate Teams Leagues are run under the auspices of the Regent Bridge Club andare held on the premises of the Regent Bridge Club, 25 Waterloo Road, Dublin 4. They are  played on specificMonday nights.
    2. In the event that any team wishes to appeal a decision in relation to the operation of the League, the Team Captain should submit a written appeal to the Regent Bridge Club Committee, who should consult with the League Organiser and may consult with the Tournament and Play Committee. The Decision of the RegentBridge Club Committee is final on all matters pertaining to the League.
    3. Both Leagues are run as an in-person face-to-face competition on the premises of the Regent Bridge Club.  No matches will be played on-line.
    4. The Area Master League Organiser is Noreen Pender; the Intermediate League organiser is Máiréad Ní Óistín.

  1. Format of the League

    1. Entry to a League is by Team. The highest ranking player on a Team must be of the relevant grade for the League.  “Playing up” is allowed at the discretion of the League Organiser.
    2. Each League has 6 rounds of 24 board matches over the months from September/October to March in a straight Swiss format.
    3. All teams, without exception, must play on the Final evening.
    4. If there is an odd number of teams, there will be a sit-out on each night.

  1. Matches and Scoring
    1. Each match will have a Home Team and an Away Team.  For the first round, Home and Away Team allocation will be random.  Thereafter, the Home Team will be the higher-ranked team in the Swiss score.
    2. Matches are divided into two 12-board sessions with players from the Home Team remaining in the same positions and players from the Away Team switching for the second half of the match.

    1. In the event of a sit-out, standard CBAI treatment will be applied.
    2. At the beginning of each match, Team Captains are provided with a League Scorecard. This is to be completed in full and returned to the League organiser at the end of each match, after agreeing the resultwith the opposition.
    3. Errors in results reported may be corrected and reported to the League Organiser within one day of the match once they are agreed by both teams.
    4. Disputes in scoring must be settled after each board is played. If agreement cannot be reached, theTournament Director must be called to provide a ruling.

  1. Tournament Direction

The League Organiser will make arrangements for Tournament Direction and will inform the Team Captains.  All decisions of the Tournament Director are final but may be appealed, through the Tournament Director, to the Regent Bridge Club Tournament and Play Committee.

  1. Composition of Teams
    1. Teams may comprise 4 - 7 players, one of which is nominated as Team Captain.
    2. Teams may add players in the course of the competition. All 7 players may be played in the same match. Substitutes are allowed. Teams may play two separate substitutes over the course of the League. Any substitute player may play once only and may not play for another team. A team, having played a substitute, may move that substitute onto the core team and move out any player who has only played once, that player now being treated as a played substitute who may not be played again.

  1. Seating
    1. There are no seating privileges in the League. Players are expected to facilitate opponents who wish to stay seated for health reasons. The League Organiser should be advised of special requirements.
    2. Teams must switch over players after 12 boards so that two pairs do not play each other for the full 24 boards.

  1. Entry Fees and Table Money

Entry fees and table money will be determined by the Regent Bridge Club Committee and will be notified to Team Captains by the League Organiser.

  1. Results and Prizes

Results and Standings are posted on the Regent Bridge Club website. Prizes will be decided by the Regent Bridge Club Committee.

  1. Fulfilling fixtures
    1. Teams must play their matches on the scheduled dates, except in exceptional or unforeseen circumstances. If a team (the “Offending Team”) is not in a position to fulfil a fixture on the scheduled date, the Team Captain of the Offending Team will speak to (not text message or email) the opposing Team Captain immediately and advise of the difficulty in fielding a team. Contact telephone numbers are available from the League Organiser.  In such cases, both teams are requested to facilitate each other by making arrangements to play the match as soon as possible and agreeing an alternative date with the Regent Bridge Club Manager, Declan Byrne. The Team Captain of the Offending Team should also inform the League Organiser, who will assist with the possibility of finding a substitute player, if required.  Such matches must be played by at least six days before the next round (i.e., the Tuesday evening beforehand) to allow for the next draw in the Swiss movement.
    2. Rescheduled matches are to be played in the Regent Bridge Club. The fixture should be confirmed with theRegent Bridge Club Manager and pre-dealt boards will be made available.
    3. Where the proposed rescheduled match does not take place within 6 days before the next round, the match will be deemed to have been forfeited by the Offending Team and a walkover will be awarded to the opposing team. It should be noted that where the original Offending Team could not play because of exceptional circumstances and was not facilitated in reasonably rearranging the fixture, the opponents will now become the Offending Team. The Regent Bridge Club Committee will be consulted in agreeing the outcome of such a dispute and the decision of the Committee shall be final.
    4. Where a team, without notice, does not turn up to fulfil the fixture and the full opposing team presents itself in the Regent on the evening of the match, a walkover will be awarded.
    5. In the event of a walkover, standard CBAI treatment will be applied.
    6. The above rules will be strictly adhered to. The League Organiser will make every effort to assist both teams in rearranging a fixture.
    7. While non-offending teams will be given priority in these cases, they are expected to cooperate in the process of rearranging matches and to assist Offending  Teams where genuine serious difficulties arise at short notice.
    8. In the event of a conflict of interest arising, the matter should be referred by the League Organiser to the Regent Bridge Club Committee for decision and the decision of the Committee shall be final.
