| Kay Downes RIP |
 |
We regret to announce the passing of our ex-president Kay Downes. Our sincere sympathies go to Brideen, Maeve, Aine and the extended family. Kay was one of the most active people involved in the promotion of the game of bridge for many years. In addition to her two presidencies of the Regent in 1975- 1976 and 2004-2005 she was also president of the CBAI, the IBU and the Dublin South Region (1990-2000). She worked indefatigably for bridge at all levels until later in her eighties.
A high standard player, she also keenly followed the progress of Irish Teams abroad. On one occasion she stepped into the non-playing captaincy of the Irish Ladies team when the original NPC was taken ill, quickly earning the respect of her players.
Kay was great company away from the bridge table - an hour spent with Kay and her beloved husband Dermot was an hour full of fun and laughter (and news!)

| Regent History Book 1925-2025 |
"In 1924 a man called Graham put a small advertisement in a Dublin newspaper asking if anyone was interested in playing the increasingly popular game of bridge. Over the next few months others joined the group for games. By early 1925 they had the idea of forming a club - the first in Dublin, and indeed Ireland - devoted soley to playing bridge. Hence, the birth of the Regent." This book contains 192 pages of bridge history accompanied by hundreds of photographs taken during the past ten decades.
