Railway Union Bridge Club Newsletter Spring 2025           

 

John Burke Cup

The John Burke Cup takes place on Monday 24th March. The event is pre-registration and there is a draw for partners.

 

Member Workshops

Two member workshops will be taking place on Thursday evening, 10th April and 17th April. These workshops will be aimed at Novice and Inter B members.

 

Monday Evening Bridge

Bridge takes place every Monday evening (other than on bank holidays). Please be seated by 7.15 p.m. sharp, payment is by card. 

 

Thursday Morning Bridge

Thursday Morning Bridge takes place each week. Please be seated by 9.45 a.m., payment is by card. Visitors are welcome. Tea and coffee is available, but please bring your own mug.

Charity Bridge for Pieta on Monday 6th March

Charity Night Monday 6th March 2023

 

                 

 

In aid of Pieta House 

 

Monday 6th March at 7:30pm sharp, please be seated by 7:15pm.

 

Cost €10 per person. Pre entry is essential.

 

Location: Railway Union Sports Club, Park Avenue, Sandymount, D04 PF86.

 

Members, friends, and members of local Bridge clubs are very welcome to this fundraiser for the Suicide Prevention Charity Pieta https://www.pieta.ie/

 

Railway Union Bridge Club members can enter by adding names to a list on Monday evening or Thursday morning Bridge. Or you can email Railwayunionbridge@gmail.com, giving your name, grade and NBID number. 

 

Enter by 27th February to guarantee your place. 

 

You can support this fundraiser in many ways:

  1. By entering the Charity Night competition.
  2. By inviting friends to play in the competition.
  3. By publicising the event in other clubs where you play.
  4. By buying raffle tickets on the night.
  5. By donating prizes for the raffle.
  6. By sponsoring part of the event, e.g. prizes or other costs.

 

Donations may also be made online on the club's website at https://www.pa55.ie/Club/Railway and will be accepted on the night by cash, cheque, card, from emptied piggybank, etc.

Final Night of the Summer Grand Prix

The final night of our Summer Grand Prix took place on Monday 29th Aug 2022 in the hall.

There was a great turn out with a spot prize raffle during the game. Presentation of prizes was in the bar after the game.

Mary thanked Fiona O’Gorman for her innovative idea, updating the leader board and sponsoring the prizes.

Mervyn and Marianne both said how much they enjoyed the competition and thanked our TD John, and the committee.

Congratulations to our winners:  1st/2nd joint = Mervyn Whaley and Su Li.

3rd = Joan Casey.

Best A = Anne Kelly.

Best B = Margaret and Paddy Moran.

Best attendance = Marianne Gorman.

         

President's Annual End of Year Awards

Our end of year summer annual awards took place on Thursday 9th June.

 We were so delighted to be able to celebrate this event with a summer party for the first time in 3 years in the patio area of RUSC.

The initial presentation was to the winners of the Presidents Prize held on 3 Mondays in May.        

1st Prize – Fiona O’Gorman

2nd Prize – Ruth Maher.

3rd Prize – Phil Sweeney.

The summer awards winners are:

Best Novice – Rosario Kealy.

Best Inter B1 – Liz Kevans.

Best Inter B2 – Paula Kilbane.

Mary thanked the committee for all their support and hard work throughout the year.

She reminded members that our summer games would be in person only.

The Summer Grand Prix would start on Monday 20th June and run for  10 weeks.

We had 12/13 tables each night and ran a hybrid competition with amalgamated results.

Many thanks to Roisin Quigley for doing the  leader board  each week and of course John Royd’s for running such a smooth competition. (See website for leader board)

Martin Cowley Cup 2022

Martin Cowley Cup Success

Congratulations to everyone who played in the Martin Cowley Cup, it was a closely fought competition with the lead fluctuating on several occasions during the last round. Many thanks to John Royds, our TD, for his meticulous planning of the event.
