A GUIDE TO COMPLETING TRAVELLERS
PBC uses handwritten score sheets (Travellers) examples of which can be seen below this message. The Travellers are completed by North. Before play starts North writes the names of the players at the table on the back of the first Traveller
e.g. N/S Tony and Mike E/W Joan and Eileen (Note: if a player is new/newish a full name and surname will be helpful).
Next the number of the board is written at the top right of the Traveller (20 in the attached example sheet below).
After a board has been played North writes down the E/W pair number alongside their (N/S) pair number e.g if North is pair 2 and is playing E/W pair 6, North writes 6 in the square to the right of 2 (see attached example Traveller). North then writes the contract in the next square e.g. 4S, then 'played by' in the next square e.g. W (skips lead) and then write the number of tricks made in the next square e.g. 11. And, finally the score.
THE SCORE: Some Travellers (arguably somewhat unclearly) indicate the score as a Plus or Minus to N/S (see below)). If N/S gets a plus score it goes in that left side (Plus) column if E/W gets a plus score it goes in the right side column (as a negative score for N/S)
Note 1: The score can be found on the back of the bidding card.
Note 2: Writing in the score is the LEAST important thing to do as our scoring software automatically puts in the score after the other info is input (contract/played by/number of tricks made).
Finally North shows what has been written to East or West who checks that it has been done correctly. Note: It is important that East checks that the correct contract and number of tricks made is correctly entered it is much LESS important that the correct score is entered (as the scoring software automatically enters that score).
Common mistakes made:
Wrong pair number e.g. North pair 2 is playing E/W pair 6 and gives E/W some other number or worse North pair 2 puts the score in the N/S pair 6 row and records E/W pair 6 as pair 2 - nightmare!
Wrong score e.g. 3H played by E/W making 9 tricks is recorded as a score of 160. This is common and NOT a problem as it is easily spotted as the scoring software automatically puts in the correct score number.
