Phuket Bridge Club
Code of Conduct
The game of bridge must always be a welcoming, courteous, and encouraging experience for everyone who participates in any Phuket Bridge Club event. Although duplicate bridge is by its nature competitive, we have a common interest in having the competitive element in our events balanced by positive conduct and pleasant social interaction.
It is essential that all players conduct themselves in a respectable and orderly manner with consideration for the rights of fellow players. The club’s code of conduct will be strictly enforced to add to everyone’s enjoyment of the game. If you have any concerns in this regard, please speak to your game director or contact our executive committee. Bridge is meant to be fun, for all!
While playing, please remember to:
- Greet opponents in a friendly manner;
- Encourage new and beginning players;
- Turn off your mobile phone;
- Try to keep up to a reasonable speed with your bidding and play. Normally, you should complete each board in 7 to 7-1/2 minutes.
- Avoid unnecessary movement and noise until the round of play is complete at all tables;
- Acknowledge good bidding and play; and
- Call the director whenever there is a concern.
Please do NOT:
- Use profanity;
- Usurp the director’s role by calling for silence;
- Make any negative gestures;
- Give gratuitous lessons or analysis of hands;
- Gloat about a good result;
- Argue with the game director.
As in all games bad behavior will be penalized.
If a player at the table behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately. Annoying behavior, embarrassing remarks, or any other conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game is specifically prohibited.
The director has the authority to assess disciplinary penalties. This can include a warning and repeated warnings may lead to disqualification from the current event. In addition, any violation may result in a disciplinary hearing where a player’s future participation in Phuket Bridge Club events will be considered
