Resumption of Evening Bridge

We are trialling a new day of Tuesday for an evening session at the usual 7pm. The first session was on 17th August. If you need a partner please let us know in advance that you will be attending and we will do our best to match you up with someone. Please arrive by 6:45 pm to allow the director time to organise the movement. If you are going to be later please let us know. Note that the club has a new telephone number 01733 896078.

We may play pairs or teams, depending on numbers.

We also plan to start teams bridge on some Wednesday evenings when possible. More information about that will follow.

You will be asked to pay your annual membership fee of £12 but individual sessions will be free of charge to members until the end of March 2022. Non-members will be charged £3.

Club re-opening 5 August 2021

We are pleased to report that the club re-opened on Thursday 5th August, with a good turnout.

This year you will be asked to pay your annual membership fee of £12 but individual sessions will be free of charge to members until the end of March 2022. Non-members will be charged £3. Tea and biscuits will be provided as before. Please arrive by 1pm to allow the director time to set up the session.

There is no requirement to wear a face mask but you may choose to do so. We recommend you maintain social distancing. Hand sanitisers will be provided and windows will be open for ventilation. 

We will display a QR code for those wishing to check in using the NHS COVID-19 app but this will not be compulsory. Visitors should leave their contact details if not scanning the QR code.

Re-opening of evening sessions is under consideration and will be announced soon.

Online Competitions 2020-21

During the lockdown period club members have been playing online and the club has been represented in competitions.

Peterborough won the online Cambs & Hunts league. The team was Chris, Christina, Mark, Trevor and Don.

In the Online NICKO 2020-21

Peterborough A (Mark, Trevor, Rob, Tim) reached the 4th round with wins against Keswick, Allendale and Torquay.

Peterborough B (Chris, Christina, Don, Bill) reached the 4th round with wins against Exeter and New Amersham (and one bye).

 

NICKO Plate 2019-20

The NICKO Plate competition which started in 2019 was paused as teams were not obligated to play online.

Peterborough A are stll waiting to play their second round match against a Cambridge team.

Club Competitions 2019-20

In view of the club closure, the remaining rounds of the Teams Championship, Pivot Teams, Handicap Trophy and Alpine Bridge Championship are cancelled. The Committee Cup had completed, although the last round was cancelled. The current standings in all competitions are declared as the final results and may be seen on the website. 

  • The Peterborough Pairs is postponed until the club re-opens.
  • The AGM is postponed until the club re-opens.

Wednesday Evening Teams

We restarted Wednesday bridge on 20th October and plan to play on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

We will need to know who is coming so we can make up teams. You can enter either with your chosen partner or as an individual and we'll try to match you up. The teams will be arranged, to be reasonably fairly balanced and to be different each time. We'll play as long as we have at least 8 people signed up. With 2, 3 or 4 tables we'll play a movement where you play both pairs in the other teams.

All are welcome including non-members.

Start time: 7 pm
Table money: Free to members until 31 March 2022, £3 for guests.

CoronaVirus Closure 17 Mar 2020

Peterborough bridge club is now closed until further notice, following the government/PHE guidelines.

We will postpone the AGM and defer collection of subscriptions for 2020-21 until the club re-opens.
Whenever this happens we'll update the website and notify members by email.

In the meantime take care.

Garden Cities Qualifier

The Cambs & Hunts qualifier for the Garden Cities was played on Sunday 2 February.

Despite winning all their matches, the Peterborough team missed out on qualification by one VP.

Tuesday Bridge Training

Peterborough Bridge club is now running training sessions on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 10pm.

These will be aimed at novices and improvers and the cost will be £3.50 for non-members and £2.50 for members.

Initially sessions will be on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month commencing 8th October 2019. If response is good, they may become weekly.  Please promote this initiative amongst your friends and contacts. It is hoped that experienced players will attend sessions to help with the coaching and make up pairs.

NICKO 2017-18

Peterborough A beat Glenfield A by 85-11 and Stamford A 58-31 and lost 53-63 to Coventry and North Warwickshire A in round 3.

Peterborough B beat Stamford D by 77-22, had a bye in round 2 and lost to Cambridge G in round 3.

Peterborough C lost to Stamford C and in the plate lost to the aforementioned Glenfield A by just 2 imps.

Peterborough qualify for Garden Cities final

Peterborough have qualified for the Garden Cities national final for the first time since 1996. On Saturday 21st April at Peterborough the team finished second of nine teams in one of four regional finals. The team was Mark Tilley, Kieran Tilley, Trevor Thrower, Ufuk Cotuk, Christina Heames, Don McFarlane, Trevor King and Marion King. Full result here.

On Sunday 4th February, Peterborough won the Cambs & Hunts qualifier for the Garden Cities. 6 teams played at Trumpington and Peterborough won with 64 VPs ahead of Lines (60) and Cambridge A (55). The team was Mark Tilley, Kieran Tilley, Trevor Thrower, Ufuk Cotuk, Christina Heames, Chris Heames, Tim Durdin and Tony Hough. Full result here.

NICKO Plate 2016-17 In the Semi Final

Peterborough A (Mark, Trevor, Rob, Tim) won 5 matches in the NICKO Plate and reached the Semi Final which was played on August 29th.

After a close match the team lost the semi-final against Young Chelsea by 17 imps.

In the quarter final against Watford and Bushey the team won by 60 imps.

In previous rounds Peterborough A beat teams from Cambridge, Stamford, Coventry and Lines.

NICKO 2016-17

Peterborough entered three teams in the National Inter-club Knockout this year. The only winners in the first round were the B team (Trevor King) who beat Louth by 23 imps. They progressed to round 3 after Stamford D withdrew but lost to Cambridge F in the third round.

Cambs & Hunts League 2016-17

The Peterborough team of Chris and Christina Heames, Trevor Thrower and Mark Tilley finished second in the first division.

The team of John Crane, Karl Farquhar, Brian Hope, Bob Vajda and Janet Porter won the second division and gained promotion.

Garden Cities qualifier

Peterborough hosted the qualifying event for the Garden Cities on Sat 4 February. Two Peterborough teams were entered along with three Cambridge teams. The winners were Cambridge A with Peterborough A second.

Peterborough wins Cambs & Hunts League Div 1 and 2

The Peterborough team of Chris and Christina Heames, Trevor Thrower and Mark Tilley have won the 2015-16 Cambs & Hunts league with 5 wins and 2 draws. They beat the University team 19-1 in the final match of the season.

The team of Trevor and Marion King, Mary and Terry Knights, Mike Keogh and Mike Kennedy (The Six Ks) have won the second division and gained promotion after finishing the season with 3 big wins.

Tuesday Club to Share Premises

Starting from Tuesday 5th January 2016, the Lincoln Road bridge club will host the City Bridge Club (known as the Tuesday club).

The City Bridge Club, which is not EBU-affiliated, meets every Tuesday at 7 pm for a 24 board duplicate.Three competitions run monthly throughout the year, the Pairs, the Nene Pairs and the Individual.The charity night on March 1st is in support of Peterborough Mobility (guide dogs) and is open to all.

Membership is £5 a year and table money is £2 (£2.50 for guests). The full programme and results can be found on the club website: www.bridgewebs.com/city

Peterborough bridge club members are welcome to attend 3 times without the extra guest charge and the same applies to City bridge club members attending PBC sessions.

NICKO 2015-16

January 25: Peterborough A beat Retford A in the third round by 56-38 and play Stamford C in the 4th round (who knocked out Peterborough B).

Previously: Peterborough A (Mark) and Peterborough B (Trevor) have both won their first round matches against Stamford teams. Trevor's team had a fine result in beating Stamford A. Both teams have a second round bye.

In the NICKO plate, Peterborough C won their first round match against Cambridge E but lost to Saffron Walden in the second round.

Garden Cities Qualifier

In the Garden Cities qualifier held at Peterborough on 8th February Cambridge qualified for the Regional Final. Peterborough A were second. For full results click here.

NEW: Wednesday afternoon bridge

For a trial period of January to March 2016, Peterborough bridge club will be running duplicate bridge on Wednesday afternoons.

If successful we hope to extend it, so do please support this new gentle duplicate session.

We start on 6th January at 1:15 pm.

Christmas Afternoon Sessions on Tuesdays

Please note that there will be no Thursday afternoon bridge on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Instead, for these two weeks only, there will be an afternoon session on Tuesday, December 22nd and 29th, starting at the usual time of 13:15.

Cambs & Hunts League update
  • There is a close situation in division 2 where Peterborough 2 (Brian)  and Peterborough 3 (Trevor K) finished equal on points with P2 finishing higher due to winning the head-to-head.It is yet to be confirmed whether P2 will be promted due to one unplayed match.
  • Peterborough 1 (Chris H) in division 1 finished third.
  • Peterborough 4 have been relegated from division 3.

NICKO 2014-15

Peterborough A (Mark, Mike T, Trevor T, Tim) won their first round NICKO match against Stamford A by 27 imps, had a bye in the second round and lost a close match to Kettering in round 3.

The B team lost to North Cambridge, the C team lost to Stamford C and the D team lost to King's Lynn. These three teams played into the plate competition but were all beaten in the first round.

Deeping Bridge Club

Deeping Bridge Club is a new club who first met in January 2014. Sessions are on Fridays between 10:00 and 13:00 at the Deepings Centre, 2 Douglas Road, Market Deeping PE6 8PA. There are occasional 'Learn and Play' sessions with Marion and Trevor King. Annual membership is £7 and the session charge is £3. The club purchased equipment using grants provided by the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, the Town Council of Market Deeping and the Parish Council of Deeping St James. Cambs & Hunts League

In the Cambs & Hunts League, Peterborough 1 (Chris Heames) have won division 2 with a 100% record over 5 matches played. They will swap places with Peterborough 3 (Trevor King) who were relegated by just one VP. Peterborough 2 (Brian Hope) have also been promoted back to division 2.

Autumn Congress 2014

In the Autumn Congress played at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough, Ufuk and Rob had a fantastic result to finish second in the main teams event. Tim and Tony reached the final of the Two Star Pairs.

Teams Championship 2013-14

In an exciting finish where everything was decided on the very last match of the season, Mark's team (Ufuk, Mary, Terry) just pipped Trevor T's team (Brian, Rob, Tim) by 0.2%. Trevor K's team (Marion, Chris, Christina) were only 2% behind them with a score that would usually be more than enough to win. Well Done Mark's team.

Northants Swiss Pairs

There were some good results for club members in the Northants Swiss Pairs at Bugbrooke on 21 June, Ufuk and Mark finished second, Trevor T was 4th and Rob and Tim were 7th. For full results click here.

EBU Autumn Congress in Peterborough

The EBU Autumn Congress, one of the major national bridge weekends, will be held in Peterborough for the first time this year. The venue is the Holiday Inn and the event takes place on 17-19 October. Full details can be seen on the EBU web site at http://www.ebu.co.uk/competitions/autumn-congress.

Those that have not played at a congress before may like to try the Really Easy Afternoon on Friday 17th October at 2 pm. This event is aimed at those with no experience of green-point events, and such players are probably below the rank of Master. It is intended as an introduction to 'congress bridge'.
