OXSHOTT BRIDGE CLUB
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 25TH OCTOBER
2023
The club activities for the year 2022/2023 are provided below and comments and views from the membership would be
welcomed, preferably in advance of the AGM, so that we can get the formal business finished quickly.
Although attendance at Oxshott has remained satisfactory during the year, it is still much lower than pre-Covid. We have
decided to make an effort to increase numbers. To this end, we are initiating a trial of Gentle Duplicate sessions on Monday
afternoons to give players who have had some lessons, possibly on-line, the chance to gravitate to duplicate in a casual,
friendly atmosphere. We have had interest from about a dozen novices so far. If you know of anyone who might like to join in,
please encourage them. I also hope that some of our established members will come along to enjoy the sessions, and to help.
On a different tack, Graham Cunningham would like to increase the number of serious players who come to Oxshott, and he
has booked a date in March next year for us to host a Blue Pointed competition.
We have decided that the time has come to re-start refreshments at the club. In future, tea, coffee and biscuits will be
available. We believe that we have got to grips with the extraordinary dishwasher! We rely on members to return their cups to
the kitchen before leaving the premises.
Membership
Membership sits at around 80 players. Attendance seems to be fluctuating rather randomly at the moment between 6 and 9
tables, and we really need to increase numbers a little. In addition to the initiatives above, if you know of anyone who might like
to join us, please encourage them.
Website
Our thanks go to David Rotherham, who has modernised our website and keeps it up-to-date. Please check on the ‘Hosts’
button to see if you are required.
Finance
The financial position of the club is ‘good in parts’. We have a healthy balance, but we also need a healthy income stream -
and that could do with improvement, as there will be an increase in the hall rental to cover the increased cost of
heating. However, the annual subscription will remain at £10 and table money at £2-50 for the coming year..
Again, our thanks go to Richard Burgess for his long tenure as Hon.Treasurer and to our Auditor, Don Porter.

Committee
All of your committee have worked hard during the year. My sincere thanks to them all. I am now retiring as Chairman and
Philip Duncan is also retiring from the committee having served for many years. The rest of the committee are willing to stand
again, but we would love to have some new blood, especially from the younger members. If you would like to nominate
anyone, please let us know as soon as possible. We particularly need someone capable of operating, or learning to operate,
the scoring system.
