2022 Committee Report

OXSHOTT BRIDGE CLUB

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2022

The club activities for the year 2021/2022 are provided below and comments and views from the membership would be welcomed, preferably in advance of the AGM, so that we can get the formal business finished quickly.

The last time I composed one of these reports was three years ago in October 2019.  Then Covid struck, and the club closed in March 2020 and remained closed until September 2021.  Many thanks to those of you who returned and braved those early days, when the heating had to vie with the increased ventilation.  Richard Arnatt took on the task of scoring almost single handed, and then managed to teach David Rotherham and, very recently, Chris Mason, which should relieve the pressure somewhat.  Liz Dunjay took on the job of the dealing machine and has managed it efficiently every week.  Many thanks to all of them.

Membership

Inevitably, over the past three years we have sadly lost some old friends among our members.  Attendance seems to be fluctuating rather randomly at the moment between 6 and 9 tables, and we really need to increase numbers a little.  If you know of anyone who might like to join us, please encourage them.

Website

Our thanks go to David Rotherham, who has modernised our website, making it very clear and easy to use.  Please check on the ‘Hosts’ button to see if you are required.

Finance

The financial position of the club is ‘good in parts’.  We have a healthy balance, but we also need a healthy income stream - and that could do with improvement, as we anticipate an increase in the hall rental to cover their inevitable increased cost of heating.  However, we will not be asking for an increase in your annual subscription this year.

Again, our thanks go to Richard Burgess for his long tenure as Hon.Treasurer and to our Auditor, Don Porter.

Committee

All of your committee have worked hard during the difficult past few years.  My sincere thanks to them all, but especially to Janet Kefford who has twice served on the committee, each time for many years but has decided that the time has come to retire.  She has been a very efficient Hon.Secretary and an enormous help to me personally.  The rest of the committee are willing to stand again, but we would love to have some new blood, especially from the younger members.  If you would like to nominate anyone, please let me know as soon as possible.
