Alliance Clubs so Far |
To the left of this page are link buttons to alliance clubs to date. You do not need to be a member of an alliance club to play in any of the RealBridge events. Just have to register if the event is not free.
History - Milton Keynes Bridge Club was itching to bring bridge back to its members. While BBO helped ease the stress of lockdown it has little social side.
Pippa Green and Colin O'Hara of the Befordshire Bridge Association joined a Beta test of the British developed RealBridge system and saw its potential. In early October 2020 Derek Marsh as Competitions secretary (in hiding) of the BBA was asked to review the RealBridge system and book himself on to a Directors course. David Pritchard, Chairman of Milton Keynes BC also joined a Beta session of RealBridge and issued the instruction 'Do It' to John Bateman the Membership Database and Technical Lead of MKBC. John and Derek ran the first MKBC Wednesday session for many months in late October.
Peter Malpass of Leighton Buzzard BC joined this session and immediately started the ball rolling for an Alliance of clubs. The concept was to pool Directors and Hosts in order to run sessions initially Monday to Wednesday while keeping the independence of the individual clubs. Regis BC elected to fill the Tuesday slot.
With free sessions at first, table money was set at £2.00 once a billing mechanism was in place. This amount should cover expenses and fees even with the non-playing Directors and Hosts earning a free next game.
The Alliance concept is simple. Events are by day of the week. Not by club. So while Monday night is LBBC's night now they may well be joined by Banbury or Newcastle or etc. Where tables 1-8 are set aside for LBBC partnerships, 9-10 for anyone wanting a partner, 11-20 for Banbury, 21-27 for Newcastle and so on. As more directors become available we hope to expand the days and times of the week. There are already calls for Thursday night to be a round robin teams night. There has also been a call for a 'Saturday afternoon because I hate football event', Hmmm not sure that will fly.
