They played five hands of bridge at each of Cosener’s House, The Broad Face, The Crown and Thistle, The King’s Head and Bell and Bella Napoli, moving on after each session to the next in line. At their third stop they took a two course lunch. These Café Bridge events were popular fund raisers pre-covid but only restarted in Henley last September. The Abingdon event was the next in a hopefully continuing series. This mixture of intellectual and gastronomical adventure was enjoyed by all. £500 was raised for Sobell House

Cafe Bridge - Wednesday 20th September 2023 |
The Cafe Bridge Event on Wednesday 20th September was a great success. 60 entries, raising £1200 for the charity 'Hearing Dogs for Deaf People'.
Robert Procter & Barbara Jordan presented OBA’s £1200 cheque to Kevin Game (Community Fundraising Manager - Northern Home Counties) of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People mid October. They have trained dogs in about 1000 homes all over the country, all bred and trained in and around their two centres in Bucks and Yorks, with hundreds of volunteers dealing with breeding, training and maintenance. They spend about £6,000,000 a year on this unsupported by the government. So whilst £1200 sounds like quite a small contribution Robert & Barbara came away convinced that it was towards a very worthwhile cause.
Prize winners:
N/S winners Peter and Michael, 2nd Monica and Joan, 3rd Lois and Stephen
E/W Winners Aine and Stuart, 2nd Diana and Julia, 3rd Adrian and Val

Oxford University win Portland Bowl (April 2021) |
The Portland Bowl Semifinals and Final took place on RealBridge this weekend.
In the semifinals, Oxford A beat Imperial and Cambridge B beat Southampton B. In the third place playoff, Imperial beat Southampton B by 75-43. In the final, after a very close match where there was not much between the two evenly matched teams, Oxford A beat Cambridge B by 128-115.
This is Oxford’s first win since 2011; Cambridge had won 6 out of the previous 7 tournaments before this year.
The victorious Oxford team was Yining Yang (captain), Lawrence Wang, Sam Anoyrkatis & Ewa Wieczorek, and they were virtually presented with the trophy on Zoom by Christopher Kemp, Chairman of the Portland Club, whose continued support of the event is very much appreciated.
