South Coast Autumn Teams (S.C.A.T.) Results |
The South Coast Autumn Teams event was held at our club on Sunday 29th April. This event was initiated by Margaret-Ann Crossley and Maggie Elderfield in co-operation with Jeff Carberry (IBA) and Kevin Tant (Mollymook) in 1997 to promote friendly competition among teams from Mollymook, Nowra, Kiama and Illawarra. This year, we had only 12 teams as, unfortunately, the Mollymook teams were unable to attend. The day was controlled most ably by Director Jeff Carberry and he provided hands that were both interesting and challenging, as is usual in the game of bridge. Play started at 10 am with much thought and concentration before a short break for lunch at 1 pm. By finish of play at 5 pm, Illawarra had a commanding lead with 251 points over Nowra, 193 followed by Kiama on 182.
Illawarra teams took the first 2 places, followed closely by our team of Malu Schaefer, Jeff Lassman, Janet Willis and Rosemary Halford, with 5th place going to Adrian Riepsamen, Tom Coogan, Kath Kean and David Christian. The most successful pairs from our club were Adrian Riepsamen and Tom Coogan, 2nd overall, and 3rd were Malu Schaefer and Jeff Lassman, a really good result in stiff competition. Congratulations to all those players.
During the event, our kitchen was staffed by Margaret Dalley with Marilyn and Bob Burney, who did an excellent job, and treats provided by members were very much enjoyed. It was a very friendly day and I believe much enjoyed by all who attended. A big thank you goes to all who helped make this such a pleasant and successful day.
Jean Barbour.
