ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Saturday 14 May 2022

4 pm via Zoom

  1. Minutes of last AGM – approved

  1. Matters arising from the minutes – None

  1. Chairs report
  • It was noted that there were relatively few items to report. The key items being:
  • Team of 8 league was re-established and ran online with two leagues. The Chair formally thanked Jane Hall for all her help running that league.
  • County matches were run – these were run via Real Bridge with c35 players taking part. The teams had not been successful with all three teams having a losing record, but it was good experience and exposed more people to RealBridge. The Chair thanked Shirley Ashtari for her help organising the teams.
  • Other events such as the Journal Cup have been organised and the Chair thanked Keith Spencer for his help with these.
  • The Chair noted that the above was not enough though and that was mainly due to resource. In particular the Chair noted how he had accepted being Chair reluctantly to keep the committee running, warning at the time that he did not have capacity and that was proved to be the case. As such, the Chair stated that he would not be standing as Chair this year.
  • Bridge in the county though was going well – this was due to the great efforts of the clubs. It had been an odd year with the transition from lockdown back to wards F2F. It was commented that every affiliated club bar one now were running some F2F sessions, with the numbers climbing, but still below what they previously were.
  • There was a great opportunity to improve and promote bridge in the county and NCBA should be at the heart of that. However, it need more volunteers and more pro-active leadership, after all bridge is  a great game.  Looking around the country there were examples of what other counties had done and there was certainly a possible role for NCBA. However, the problem (other than manpower) is that there has never been a great link between clubs, members and NCBA and that needs to be improved.
  • The Chair thanked the committee for their efforts
  • Finished with news of a success in that John Auld and Sandy Fulton are through to Crockfords finals

  1. Treasurers report – The treasurer presented the accounts. It was noted that Ian Dovey was stepping down as treasurer after five years (and more so on the committee) and he was thanked for his service.

It was noted that the accounts had been verbally discussed with the Independent Examiner, but that he had not completed his work. As such, the accounts were approved, subject to Independent Examiner signing them off.

  1. Dave Beaumont appointed Independent Examiner

  1. It was agreed that the county element of P2P to be left at 0p

  1. The following were elected to the committee:

Keith Spencer (TD)
Mark Goddard
Shirley Ashtari
Chris Frost
Mel Shepherd
Julia Staniforth
Roger Stock

MG noted that he had been made aware (that day) of someone willing to be co-opted and that he would be speaking to them.

The lack of named officers was questioned. It was stated that this would be addressed at the first committee meeting.

  1. Election of Shareholders – Keith Spencer and Julia Stanifoth

  1. Event winners:

Journal Cup – Steve Mulligan and Martin Button

Team of 8  –       League 1 – Nottingham 1 (Gambit)

                                League 2 – West Bridgford

  1. Date of next AGM – 13 May 2022
