County Night Swiss Pairs 7 pm 3rd December
New event starting the first Wednesday of each month for the next 6 months.
This will be held on Real bridge and will be free to all full county members. Link:
will be posted on the Calendar nearer the day
You will need to log on to real bridge using the link by 6.45 pm for a 7.00pm start.
Real bridge is more like the bridge you would experience in a club. The session will be played as if you are at a table with everyone being able to see and hear everyone else, with alerting and announcing just like you would do face to face. If you want further help please contact me. Real bridge do have a website which you can visit for more details.
It is hoped it will be a pairs event with a Swiss movement if numbers suffice. You will play a match of 5 boards against another pair. After the first round of 5 boards you will be matched against a pair of a similar standard in the other rounds. So we hope that everyone will want to come and give it a go. Also we will be offer feedback to players. Mark Goddard our county captain has offered to do a commentary on some of the boards. If when you play you like him to comment on a particular board then let us know. Contact me or let the director know that evening.
If you do not have a partner but want to take part go to table 12 and we will use that as a partnership desk.
We will run 6 sessions and there will be a league table of the points each pair have gained on a session.
If you have any further questions then please contact me.

| County Matches |
The 25/26 season for County Bridge is due to start in September, The County selection team are always on the look out for interested players, so if you and your partner feel like trying out a more competitive field, this is the time to put your names forward.
If you don't have a like minded partner but still want to be up for selection still put your name forward, obviously you will have to play with a less familiar partner, but it could be the start of a great partnership.
FYI
There is one County match per month from September to March, these matches are always on a Sunday Afternoon.
Against local teams, Leicester and Derby, we play face to face home and away. Against more distant teams such as Oxford we play on-line on realbridge.
Putting your name forward does not mean you will have to play all matches, or that you will be selected for all matches. You will be asked on a monthly basis if you are interested in the next Match and should you say yes, then you will be added to the selection list.
If you have any queries or to register your interest.

| NGS |
National Grading Scheme Grades
The NGS calculates a current grade and a grade band for each EBU member, based on the most recent 2000 boards, which is updated whenever new results for that player are received.
The value of your current grade is the scheme’s estimate of the percentage score that you would achieve on average if partnering another player with the same current grade at Match Pointed Pairs in a field of nationally average strength.
An average strength player therefore has a grade of about 50%, but there are no limits to the values of grades. The strongest players have current grades of over 60% and the weakest under 40%. The spread of grade values has a bell-shaped distribution. (For the statisticians, it’s approximately Normal with a standard deviation of around 5 to 6%.)
EBU grades have been divided into 13 playing card bands, ranging from ‘Ace’ at the top to ‘Two’ at the beginners’ end. Each band covers a 2% range of grade values, with ‘Eight’ having a range of 49-51%.
9 High competitions are limited to EBU members that have a maximum Grade of 9.
