Welcome to Norfolk and Norwich Bridge Club
Autumn League

Our Autumn League for teams of 4 starts on Friday 20th September, playing once a month for 4 months.

All standards are welcome and you don't need to be a member of our club to enter a team,

We currently have 3 divisions and new teams entering will automatically join in the bottom division. The cost is £48 per team which covers all four months.

If you would like further information, please contact Paul Darby ( or 01953 860336).

Cross-IMP (X-IMP) Scoring

We run the Butler Trophy competition and a few other events with X-IMP scoring. For a short explanation, have a look at this document (if you disagree with it let me know!). Examination of a Brown Trophy session results will provide a good example. Click here: X-IMP Scoring

Charity Collection

Our Charity Event on 16th August raised £68 for the Altzheimer's Society.

Allwood-Wharton Cup

Congratulations to the Norfolk and Norwich Club's team who won the trophy on Sunday 1 September 2019. The team members were: Karen Blacklock & Tom Melvin, John Dennis & Paul Darby, Mike Sabberton & Chris Mallon, and Maureen Kimbley & Bogdan Drobny. With 122 VPs, our team was 25 VPs ahead of the runners up Wymondham and District's B team. Sadly(?) no photo appears to have been taken of the winners.

EBU Blue and White Books 2019

The EBU has just published the latest versions of the Blue Book and the White Book.  The former is the Handbook of EBU Permitted Understandings – in other words permitted conventions and systems.  The latter is subtitled “Technical Matters” and is an adjunct to The Laws including interpretation of the laws and more general guidance for TDs, organisers, scorers etc.

Both booklets are available for download from the EBU web site.  Neither is exactly suitable for light reading but both include important information.

Find a Partner

Tom Melvin, our secretary, is running the Find a Partner service.  If you are in need of a partner, please send him an email: and he will circulate the membership.

Convention Cards

Would partnerships please remember that they should always have fully completed convention cards, available for their oponents to see.

This notice is not aimed at scratch partnerships.

Reserves for the League

League teams are sometimes in need of a reserve, but the captains are unsure of who they can ask to play.  To assist in this, we are now putting on the website: underneath where the teams are listed, those players who are prepared to be a reserve.

If you are not registered in a specific team and you would be prepared to play as a reserve, would you please email Stuart ( with your preferred phone number and your details will be listed.

Chief Tournament Director and Responsibilities

Peter Cotes has kindly agreed to be our Chief Tournament Director (07494 597772).

The Chief Tournament Director is responsible for organising the TD rota and for arranging suitable appeals committees as and when needed.
