1 Introduction The Tuesday Ladder is an annual competition for members only and for which a trophy, The Florence Humphries Bowl, is awarded to the winning pair. The winning pair is the one that has accumulated the most ladder points throughout the year. 2 Competition Outline There will usually be one round every month, always on a Tuesday. For the first round of the year, there will be a single movement. In subsequent rounds when there are eighteen pairs or more available to play, there will be an upper and lower division. If there are less than eighteen pairs, there will be one single movement. 3 Points Scoring System Points will be awarded according to the table below. Ties will be resolved by splitting the points between the tied pairs. Posn | Pts won in 1st round of year | Pts won in subsequent rounds | Less than 18 pairs | 18 pairs or more | 18 pairs or more | Less than 18 pairs | Upper Division | Lower Division | Single Division | 1st | 10 ladder pts | 10 ladder pts | 10 ladder pts | 8 ladder pts | 10 ladder pts | 2nd | 9 ladder pts | 9½ ladder pts | 9 ladder pts | 7 ladder pts | 9 ladder pts | 3rd | 8 ladder pts | 9 ladder pts | 8 ladder pts | 6 ladder pts | 8 ladder pts | 4th | 7 ladder pts | 8½ ladder pts | 7 ladder pts | 5 ladder pts | 7 ladder pts | 5th | 6 ladder pts | 8 ladder pts | 6 ladder pts | 4 ladder pts | 6 ladder pts | Etc | etc | etc | Etc | etc | Etc | 4 Qualification for Points Should any pair playing include one or more non-members, then that pair will not earn any ladder points and those pairs below it in each round will be raised one position per non qualifying pair above them for the purposes of earning ladder points. 5 Allocation to Upper and Lower Divisions In the second and subsequent rounds, when there are eighteen or more pairs playing, the upper division will always have ten pairs, played as a Howell; the remainder will play in the lower division. The upper division will comprise those pairs available with the greatest total number of ladder points in the year to date. When there is a tie between one or more pairs for a place in the upper division, then the director will organise a cut of the cards to determine which pair(s) will take their place in the upper division. When there are less than eighteen pairs playing, there will be one single movement.

| Last updated : 30th August 2010 22:59 | | | No Title Present | Prize Handicap
1 Each Prize Handicap event is run as an ordinary duplicate evening, with a movement appropriate to the number of participants. The only difference is in its scoring.
2 Handicaps for both players in a partnership are added to the pair's % score for the evening to arrive at an adjusted score. The winning pair is the one with the highest adjusted score. Visitors are included.
3 Players' initial handicaps are determined by the committee (usually delegated to a sub-committee comprising the director for the evening and two other experienced players, ideally one of whom knows the standard of the player in question.
Also, should a player consider that his/her handicap is incorrect by a substantial margin, they may request that it be reviewed by a similar method.
4 Handicaps are automatically adjusted after each round according to the following method:
Adjusted scores > 68%: handicaps down ½ Adjusted scores > 62%: handicaps down ¼ Adjusted scores < 50%: handicaps up ¼ Adjusted scores < 44%: handicaps up ½

| Last updated : 30th August 2010 23:00 | | | No Title Present | Challenge Handicap Cup - The Pam Tuplin Cup
1 The period of each competition will be one calendar year and is open only to members.
2 Each round is run as an ordinary duplicate evening, with a movement appropriate to the number of participants. The only difference is in its scoring.
3 Each player's personal handicap will be derived from his/her handicap after the last Prize Handicap event of the previous year. Should they not have a handicap then one will be created by the normal method used to determine initial handicaps for the Prize Handicap competitions.
4 The results for each player will be adjusted by the average of the pair’s personal handicaps. This will give an adjusted result for each player. 5 The winner will be the player with the greatest total from his/her six best adjusted results, regardless of who they partnered in each round. 6 For example, players A & B have personal handicaps of 2 and 5 respectively, derived from their handicaps after the last Prize Handicap of the previous year. Whenever they play with each other during the year in this competition, their result will be adjusted upwards by 3.5% (ie the average of 2 and 5)

| Last updated : 30th August 2010 23:01 | | | No Title Present | Round the Houses - Teams of Four League - Roger Kirby Goblets
1 During the course of the competition, a team may add players to a total of 6 in the team (ie 1 or 2 extra only), subject to rule 11. However, no player may play for more than one team.
2 Matches should be played by the dates specified in the match schedule issued by the League Director. Matches will normally take place in the winter months between September and May. Under special circumstances, the League Director may grant teams an extension for a match.
3 At least fourteen days before an offered match date, the Home Captain shall offer the Away Captain three date and time options (no more than two of which are in the same week or on the same day of the week). If these are not acceptable, then the Away Captain shall offer three dates with the same date and time restrictions. If then, no date is agreed, the matter is referred to the League Director for resolution. Clashes with evening sessions at the club should be avoided.
4 The Home Team shall have the right to determine the venue and shall be responsible for providing, at its own expense, suitable playing facilities.
5 Matches shall be head to head and consist of 24 boards. Hands should be dealt in the presence of at least one member of each team and not pre-dealt. Opposing pairs shall be swapped at the half way stage of each match. The Away Captain shall act as the director. The captains should settle any disputes. Any matter not resolved on the night shall be reported to the League Director for a decision.
6 Scoring for a match will be by IMPs, with two Match Points awarded to the winning team and zero to the losing team. In the event of a tie (ie zero IMPs difference between the teams) each team will be awarded one Match Point each.
7 The difference between the total IMPs scored in a match will be converted to League Points according to a given scale. This information and the names of the competing players shall be recorded on the card provided and countersigned by both captains. The Home Captain shall be responsible for its submission to the League Director.
8 No Match or League Points will be scored for a match declared null and void. When a team withdraws from the League with two or more matches unplayed, then all of the matches they have played will be considered null and void.
9 A team giving a walkover to its opponents shall score no match or League Points. The team given the walkover shall receive two Match Points and the greatest League Points from the following: - 60% of the maximum League Points - Their average winning League Points - The maximum League Points minus their opponents average loss
10 The League Winners will be the team with the most Match Points, where any ties are to be split firstly by total League Points and then by gross IMPs. 11 A team finishing first or second in consecutive years must divide so no more than two of the players from that team may play in the same team the following year. 12 The total of the handicaps of the 4 team members selected to play in any one match must exceed 5.00. The handicaps will be announced as part of the entry form and published on the club notice board. Normally, it will be the club handicap as at the end of August. 1999 Amended August 2010 | Last updated : 30th August 2010 22:53 | | | |
