2024 Calendar |
From January 2024 the 1st Tuesday of the month will be a Relaxed Hosted session (as we ran on 31st October) , the 3rd Tuesday will be Challenge Cup. The first Thursday of the month will be Pairs Championship and the 4th Thursday Teams. The first Thursday in January (4th Jan) will be a qualifier for the Berks and Bucks pairs competition, the Waller Bowl. The first Thursday in February (1st Feb) will be a qualifier for the Hants and IOW pairs competition, the Pottage Cup. The first Thursday in March will be a qualifier for the Chiltern League Elimination Pairs. The 4th Thursday in January (25th Jan) will be a qualifier for the Berks and Bucks teams competition, the Committee Cup.

Newbury Bridge Club AGM 2023 |
The Annual General Meeting of Newbury Bridge Club will be held at Newbury Rugby Club on Monday 4th December 2023 at 7pm.
Nominations are invited for the following positions: Treasurer
Committee member - two vacancies (proposed Yvonne Bell, Clare Reseigh).
The following Committee members are standing for re-election: John Harland, Sue Oliver, Brian Medhurst.
The following are continuing in their roles: President Ann McMahon, Chairman Alan Oliver, Secretary David Barratt, Acting Treasurer and Committee member Frans Vas Nunes, Committee member Sallie Cheek.
Nominations require a proposer and seconder, and the forms can be obtained from David Barratt.
A full agenda will be circulated two weeks in advance of the AGM. There will be a free rubber bridge session after the meeting.

Beginners' Course starting January 2024 |
 Beginners' Course 2024
Bridge is an absorbing and fascinating hobby, good for the brain and a great way of making new friends. This is a course is for beginners or those who wish to improve their game. The course will follow the syllabus of the English Bridge Union’s “Bridge for All” programme. The full course which will be at least 36 session over three terms. No partner or experience required.
Dates and Times: Monday evenings, starting 7th Jan ( with breaks at Easter & over the Summer) The lessons will run from 7:10 to 9:30pm, with a short break for refreshments.
Course Tutors: Sallie Cheek / John Harland.
Venue: The Westridge Studio at Highclere (a 10 minute drive from the centre of Newbury). Free parking on the premises. Coffee, tea and soft drinks provided.
Course Description: Learn to play Bridge, the best card game in the world, using a “hands-on” syllabus, while having fun and making new friends.
Student requirements: Pen and paper only. Students will need a copy of the EBU‘s course workbook “Book 1- Beginning Bridge”, We offer this to students at the discounted cost of £20 (£30 in the EBU shop). The workbook will see you through a full year of lessons. Students will be encouraged to spend about an hour a week studying and answering quizzes and to play bridge with other students in their homes between lessons.
Course Fees: £70 per term, plus the Student Workbook as above. The course fee also includes one year’s membership of the English Bridge Union with the following benefits.
A welcome pack on joining, including an 18 month EBU diary (while stocks last) A copy of Discovery, the online publication for newer bridge players. The magazine English Bridge, sent to members 4 times a year. The opportunity to attend Really Easy weekend bridge breaks for students
