Virtual Handicap two-monthly competitions |
Well done to Eileen Barratt who has won the second of the virtual handicaps which ran from 1st November until the end of December for all Tuesday Virtual Club events. This is an individual competition similar to the old Challenge Cup. You'll find it in Competitions 2020. The handicaps used are the current ones based on NGS grades. The 3rd competition January-February 2021 starts this week.

Rubber Bridge |
The Rubber Bridge sessions on Wednesday evenings are now well established and proving increasingly popular.
The level of technology required to join in is very low and Richard and John are very keen to assist anyone wanting help to get started.
If you are interested in getting involved or want to know more, please contact Richard or John even if you are unable to play on Wednesdays, but would like to join if other days became available. Non-members are welcome to come along for free “taster” sessions, but will be asked to join the club by paying the club subscription if they enjoy it and want to continue in the longer term. Please note, that as we are not actually meeting face to face, we are unable to provide prizes!

There is a regular Newbury Virtual Club session on Tuesday evening at 7.15. pm. These are exclusively for Newbury Bridge Club members and cost 3 BB$. We play 18 or 20 boards in 2 board rounds in a two-winner Mitchell with 16 minutes being allowed for each round. You can register from 5.15. The online ABCOL playing sessions which are now well established are aimed at ABC/Improvers plus anyone else who would like to join in. The new Graduates have also begun to to play in these. They are being run by John Harland plus various helpers at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday. These sessions are now on the calendar and are likely to be repeated weekly for the forseeable future.
There is an Improvers/Graduates session on Friday at 7.15. p.m. Sometimes both groups will meet together, sometimes separately but we anticipate thre will be some movement between the two groups. On the last Friday of the month there is a 'Relaxed Virtual Club' session (no Zoom) for the Improvers,
There is also a supervised play session on Monday at 2.30. p.m. where hands are discussed immediately after they are bid and played which is open to all.
To help us with the organisation please book in for the above ABCOL sessions either as a pair or as an individual seeking a partner.

Coronavirus |
All meetings of Newbury Bridge Club are cancelled until further notice (except those online!)
And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.
Thanks to Mary Murphy who sent us this poem.

Deanwood |
The date of our move is almost certain to be delayed for some time with the coronavirus situation but we will no longer meet at the Conservative Club.
Following considerable research from The Committee it has been been decided that we have only one alternative venue to relocate to on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. Deanwood Park Golf Club. We have looked at many venues but no others could provide what we required. Many suitable venues were not available on the evenings we needed them. Others did not have enough parking spaces and others were too expensive. Deanwood Park Golf Club and John Bowness the General Manager have been very accommodating and are looking forward to hosting us. The Committee are aware that Deanwood is further from the centre of Newbury and are trying to coordinate lifts for members that require them.
