History

Early History

Marion Horsey (now Blackhall) and Barbara Drew (now Parker) had met when taking lessons in the Nottingham Club system (popular in those days in the small village of Nailsea near Bristol) and were playing rubber bridge at home when Alan Green suggested they form a bridge club where they could both play with other like minded people and also improve their game. To that end a preliminary meeting was arranged on 23 November 1972 to start off the necessary procedures to initiate a new club (unfortunately Barbara could not be at the meeting due to the imminent arrival of her third child, due to Murphy's Law - not a known bridge convention - he didn't arrive until  the next month).

The early committee always consisted of eight members. This was so that a game of bridge could be held in Alan and Ruby Green's house after the meeting. Even then early signs of systematic cunning were evident!

1990's

In 1997 seven of the 11 members of the county Tollemache team were members of the club. Membership of the club was up to 70 in the mid 1990's but has steadily declined since.
