Mildura Workers Bridge Club

1. Name

The name of the Association is Mildura Workers Bridge Club (“MWBC”).

2. Purpose

The purpose of the Association is to provide opportunities for members and visitors to play Duplicate Bridge in an organised, fair, and enjoyable environment.

The Association exists to support participation in the game of bridge, encourage learning and confidence, and promote respectful interaction between players.

3. Nature of the Association

3.1 The Association is constituted for the playing of Duplicate Bridge and related educational and social activities.

3.2 The Association is not constituted as a sporting body.

3.3 The Association does not adopt a disciplinary framework beyond what is necessary for the orderly conduct of bridge sessions under the Laws of Duplicate Bridge.

3.4 Nothing in this Constitution authorises the Association to regulate personal conduct unrelated to the playing of bridge under the Laws.

4. Laws Governing Play

All bridge sessions conducted by the Association are played in accordance with the Laws of Duplicate Bridge, as promulgated by the World Bridge Federation and adopted by the Australian Bridge Federation.

5. Conduct of Bridge Sessions

5.1 Each bridge session is overseen by a Director.

5.2 The role of the Director is to:
a) make rulings under the Laws of Duplicate Bridge;
b) assist in the orderly and fair conduct of play; and
c) provide guidance to players during the session where required.

5.3 The Director’s authority is limited to matters arising during play and under the Laws.

6. Membership

6.1 Membership is open to persons who wish to participate in bridge activities conducted by the Association.

6.2 Members are entitled to:
a) participate in sessions conducted under the Laws of Duplicate Bridge;
b) receive rulings applied consistently and impartially; and
c) be treated with dignity and consideration in all Association activities.

7. Management

7.1 The affairs of the Association are managed by a Committee elected by the members.

7.2 The role of the Committee is administrative and organisational and includes:
a) arranging sessions and venues;
b) managing finances and records; and
c) supporting the activities of the Association.

7.3 The Committee does not exercise authority over the conduct of play beyond what is provided for in this Constitution.

8. General Meetings

General meetings of members are held at such times and in such manner as determined by the Committee.

9. Interpretation

9.1 This Constitution is to be interpreted consistently with:
a) the purpose of supporting enjoyment, learning, and orderly play; and
b) the Laws of Duplicate Bridge.

9.2 In the event of ambiguity, interpretation should favour participation, orderly play, and enjoyment of the game.
