Cath Fox has asked all ECBA clubs to display an advertisement for a new website and initiative for Youth Bridge. Click here for what it has to say, and follow the onward links, including those detailing local activities. While not of direct relevance to members, this is an important initiative, and members may have children or - more likely - grandchildren, who might enjoy the game. Or friends with the same. If the game is to survive, it needs new blood.

Welcome to Mountnessing BC
Welcome to the Mountnessing Bridge Club Website

The Club is open for F2F play, and we are glad to see an increasing number of members returning to the Club.

In accord with government guidelines, we have now decided to relax the Club Covid rules. See below.

Club AGM & EGM

The minutes of the Club's AGM held on Thursday 9th June 2022 will be published shortly.

Enough for the moment to reassure members and other interested parties that the Club is very much open for business and the Club Duplicates will take place as normal.

There will be an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) prior to the Duplicate on Thursday 7th July 2022. Nominations are requested for vacant positions on the Committee. Click here for further details of those already standing for election.

Covid

There are no longer any legal Covid restrictions. So, while the Club Committee will continue to monitor how this should affect the Club's policy, it has been decided that we should now relax our 'terms of play'. So:-

  1. If you are diagnosed with, or show symptoms of, Covid or Flu, we would still expect you to stay away until you are recovered.
  2. Asymptomatic attendees may of course wear masks if they wish, but need not do so, nor take a Covid test unless circumstances suggest they should.
  3. All should use hand sanitizer on entry to the Club.
  4. Unvaccinated individuals may attend at their own risk.

We hope these measures will continue to provide a safe environment for all our members.

Peter also has 'first refusal' as Club Captain for the 2022/23 season.

Mary Rogers Trophy

Well done to Les Curtis and Dave Piper who won the Mary Rogers Trophy for 2022 by a comfortable margin. That's in addition to their victory in the Windmill Trophy and joining The Seventy Club earlier in the year. Something must be done about this!

Windmill Trophy 2021

Well done to Les Curtis and Dave Piper who comfortably won the Club winter championship in a good turnout for these Covid times.

Click here for the full table of results.

Les & Dave also won the somewhat less prestigious Player of the Month competition for November: see the notice to the right.

Find a partner scheme

If you are looking for a partner, you have three basic options:

  • Log in to the Members' Area where you can view current contact details for all members, and you can optionally send email(s) to players of interest to you (see the panel below about 'Accessing the Members' Area if necessary); or
  • Use the on-line partner matching service available through this website (see the panel below about 'Accessing the Members' Area if necessary); the advantage of this method is that your request is posted immediately though the disadvantage is that you may need to wait for other players to see the post; or
  • Send an email to mountCM15@gmail.com. This action will result in an email being sent to potential partners, though there could be a delay as such action triggers a manual process.

Accessing the (password protected) Membership Area

If you have not already done so, please click on the 'Membership' menu item, then follow the instructions.  Enter your email address as your 'name' and then press 'Forgotten Password'.  You will then receive an email with a password that will enable you to log into the membership area.  NB You MUST use the email address by which the club recognises you, e.g., the one to which Secretary sends you club-related messages.  Once you have registered on the system in this way, you will be able to log into the membership area, where several services are open to you:

  • You can view the current club membership list, on which you can find your 'Club ID', which serves as your personal 'short-code' for the wireless scoring system.
  • You can also register that you are seeking a partner.  Note that in the Calendar summary to the right of this pane, if you spot the message Partner? then it means that at least one potential partner is available;  if you spot the message Bookings then it means that at least one partnership has been arranged - but there could be another partner available.  Click on the Partner? or Bookings message to reveal details.
  • You can also access documents that are restricted to club members, such as, the agenda and papers for the Club's AGM

New to Bridge?

If you want to learn to play Bridge, we have two suggestions:

  • Some of our individual members do offer private learning and development opportunities.  If you are interested, send us a message via the 'Contact Us' link, which is accessible through the left hand menu
  • On the 'Useful Links' page you will find a link to a commercial on-line Bridge Learning experience

Our Club in brief...
Our Club in brief...

We are a friendly medium-sized bridge club that meets every Thursday evening at Mountnessing Village Hall to play duplicate bridge. We are usually 8 - 12 tables, though numbers are still recovering post-Covid. Play starts at 19:30 but pairs should arrive by 19:15: if you arrive unannounced after 19.25 you may not get a game. The club uses wireless scoring and computer-dealt boards. Visitors and players with limited experience are always welcome but note that you do need to have arranged a partner in advance as we do not currently operate a 'host' system.

Membership & Table Money for 2022/23

The Club Membership fee for 2022/23 is £10 per person. Table money is £2.50 per person for Members. The cost for Visitors is £4.00. All our regulars are encouraged to become Members, not only for the cost benefits but to enable them fully to participate in Club Competitions and Ladders, and to be eligible to vote on matters of Club business.

For those who can't make it to the Club at the moment, but who want to retain membership, the Application Form, with instructions for payment, is here: PDF, MS Word

Well done to Val and Paul Mollison for jointly winning Player of the Month for May 2022. Click the box heading for the results. A complete historical record of past winners - together with progress for the current month - can be found here.
