Cath Fox has asked all ECBA clubs to display an advertisement for a new website and initiative for Youth Bridge. Click here for what it has to say, and follow the onward links, including those detailing local activities. While not of direct relevance to members, this is an important initiative, and members may have children or - more likely - grandchildren, who might enjoy the game. Or friends with the same. If the game is to survive, it needs new blood.

Welcome to Mountnessing BC
Welcome to the Mountnessing Bridge Club Website

The Club is open for F2F play, and we are glad to see members returning. Attendance has occasionally been patchy but has improved considerably over the last few weeks. Thanks to all who have responded to the call to support the Club!

In accordance with government guidelines, we have relaxed the Club Covid rules. See below.

Comment
Covid

There are no longer any legal Covid restrictions. So, while the Club Committee will continue to monitor how this should affect the Club's policy, it has been decided that we should now relax our 'terms of play'. So:-

  1. If you are diagnosed with, or show symptoms of, Covid or Flu, we would still expect you to stay away until you are recovered.
  2. Asymptomatic attendees may of course wear masks if they wish, but need not do so, nor take a Covid test unless circumstances suggest they should.
  3. All should use hand sanitizer on entry to the Club.
  4. Unvaccinated individuals may attend at their own risk.

We hope these measures will continue to provide a safe environment for all our members.

Windmill Trophy - 8th December 2022

Congratulations to Audrey Hartley and David Embleton for heading the leaderboard of this annual single-session event. However, as the Club rules say that both players in the partnership have to be members - and David is an occasional but regular guest - the Trophy itself goes to the runners-up. So, congratulations also to Liz Williams and Nick Hagan

The Chris Megahey Trophy is a new cumulative ladder-style competition in memory of Chris Megahey, who for over 25 years up to March 2020 was consistently amongst the most successful and most respected players at the Club. It rewards those who are consistently in the top three positions. Click on the header for the rules of this and other Club competitions. For the current standings, click here

Congratulations to Club regulars Simon Moorman and Peter Oake who - with teammates - won the Swiss Teams, came runners up in the Swiss Pairs, and won the EW section of the Pre-Congress Pairs.

Well done also to Club member Cath Fox who - with her partner - was the overall winner of the Ladies', Men's and Mixed Pairs.

  • Chairman: David ('don't call me Dave') Piper
  • Vice-Chairman: Nick Hagan
  • Secretary: Simon Moorman
  • Treasurer: Graham Beeton
  • Webmaster: Theo Todman
  • Committee Member: Mike Harbour

Watch this space for future updates. Simon is acting as Development Secretary and has several good ideas for improving the Club and increasing the membership.

Mary Rogers Trophy

Well done to Les Curtis and David Piper who won the Mary Rogers Trophy for 2022 by a comfortable margin. That's in addition to their victory in the Windmill Trophy and joining The Seventy Club earlier in the year. Something must be done about this!

New to Bridge?

If you want to learn to play Bridge, we have two suggestions:

  • Some of our individual members do offer private learning and development opportunities.  If you are interested, send us a message via the 'Contact Us' link, which is accessible through the left hand menu
  • On the 'Useful Links' page you will find a link to a commercial on-line Bridge Learning experience

Our Club in brief...
Our Club in brief...

We are a friendly medium-sized bridge club that meets every Thursday evening at Mountnessing Village Hall to play duplicate bridge. We are usually 8 - 12 tables, though numbers are still recovering post-Covid. Play starts at 19:30 but pairs should arrive by 19:15: if you arrive unannounced after 19.25 you may not get a game. The club uses wireless scoring and computer dealt boards. Visitors and players with limited experience are always welcome but note that we do not usually operate a 'host' system so you will need to arrange for a partner: see menu item Find a Partner for assistance
