Response to Major Suit Opening without major support.
1 Spade. To an opening 1 Heart you need 6+ HCP and 5 Spades.
2 Hearts - Over a 1 Spade Opening Bid showing 10+ HCP and 5 Hearts.
2 of a Minor. 10+ HCP and 5 of the suit.
1 NT. 6 – 10 HCP and no 5 card suit.
2 NT. 11 – 12 HCP and no 5 card suit. Invite to game if opener has extra.
3 NT. 13+ HCP and no 5 card suit.
Responses by Opener - A new suit is “forcing”. NT is not “forcing”
2 of original major show 6+ in the suit.
3 of new suit shows 3+ card support. Let responder know you have an 8 card fit.
Over 1 NT – usually pass unless you have a 18+ HCP Partner showing 6 – 10 HCP
Over 2 NT – Add 11/12 to your HCP and either pass or bid 3NT
Over 3 NT – If you had slam most likely original bid would have been different.
