12+ HCP and 5+ Hearts or Spades

Response to  Major Suit Opening

The first thing to tell your partner is there is an 8 card fit in the suit.

2 M - 6 – 10 HCP and 3 trump

3M - A Good 10 or 11+ HCP.  Often called a “Limit Raise” it is Invitational to Game.

3M - 8 – 12 HCP and 4 of the suit

Opener Distribution Additions once a suit is established.

Void = 3 pts

Singleton = 2 pts

Doubleton = 1 pts

Add your Shortness points to your HCP to evaluate your hand

What is your hand worth now?

What did your partner tell you about their hand?

25 – 26 HCP + Distribution to make 4 of the Major Suit

1 Heart.  You have "extra" but can let you partner know with your next bid.

i Heart.  Bid up the line.

1 Spade

Pass.  Not enough points to bid.  You clubs will help but too few points to mention them.

2 hearts.  Basic Opener.  No extra.

1 NT.

When Responder Bid 1 Spade they denied 4 Hearts.  

Bid 1 Spade.  ! Heart by the responder does not deny 4 Spades.

Bid 2 Spades.  Basic Opener and no extra.

2 Hearts.  You have 14 but responder had not limited their hand. They have 6+  They may pass.  

You have an 8 card fit.  "If you have a "suit" don't look for a "wardrobe"  Don't bid your Spades.
