Attention: Beginner Bridge Players
I have compiled a list of classes, teachers, mentors, bid and play opportunities and non-life master games. I hope this list helps. Please send me additional information, edits, deletions if you are aware of any. Prices are subject to change.
In Victoria we have Bid and Play and Non Life Master (NLM) Games:
Bid and Play: Monday @ 8:30AM at St. Peter's Anglican Church Hall, 3939 St Peter's Rd, Saanich, BC. Rita and Nev run two sessions of "Bid and Play" for (beginner) rubber bridge players. Players can arrive on their own, in pairs or as a foursome. Once they are at a table, they stay there for the session and can ask questions about bidding or play as they arise to Rita or Nev. The cost is $6/ player. Rita and Nev also run a lesson once monthly on 3rd Thursday morning at St. Peter’s. (all prices are subject to change)
Bid and Play: Wednesday @ 9:30AM at the Monterey Senior Centre, 1442 Monterey Avenue, Victoria BC. Rita and Nev run another sessions of "Bid and Play" for (beginner) rubber bridge players. Play officially starts at 9:30 am but many players are already there by 9:00 am. The session ends at 11:30. The cost is around $6.50 / player paid in advance at the Monterey reception desk. Non-Life Master Games:
The two NLM weekly games are held at the Victoria Bridge Centre at 880D Esquimalt Road, Victoria BC (behind Tim Hortons).

The cost for the above 2 games is $8.00 player for VBC members and $9.00 for non-members. These are sanctioned games, where you collect masterpoints. (2019 prices are subject to change)
Other Games:
Goward House:
Bridge games are one of the most popular activities at Goward House, 250-477-4401. In addition to the groups listed below, there are several groups of friends who play regularly at Goward House. Yearly membership is $60.00. Individual games are $3.00.
If Bridge is your passion you are welcome to inquire about being included in one or more of these groups. (all prices are subject to change)
- Lady’s Bridge Alternate Mondays 12:30-3:30
- Duplicate Bridge Wednesdays 12:15-4:00
- Mixed Sun Room Bridge Thursdays 1:00-4:00
- Drop-In Bridge Fridays 12:30-4:00
- There are also private foursome and two tables. As a member you may prefer to set up your own table or tables. A quiet spot can almost always be found for you to play. Your friends may come twice as guests then take out a membership.

Francobridge:

Individual teachers have provided more information on their services, which they describe below in their own words. Clicking on the links will provide more detailed information.
- Jim Brackenbury is a certified ACBL and “Better Bridge” (Audrey Grant) teacher. He offers a series of nine-week ACBL courses at Goward House (250-477-4401) starting each January and October, using a “cards-on-the-table” approach, primarily aimed at intermediate or returning players who wish to update their game. The January to March 2019 course is on Play of the Hand (Monday afternoons), and the fall course will be on Defense.
- Ele Gibson is an ACBL accredited teacher who has been teaching bridge since 1987. She specialises in intermediate players who want to improve on the basics of bidding and defence or want to learn 2/1. Ele is interested in working with small groups (up to 3 tables) for several 2/3 hour sessions which include bidding, play of the hand and defence with a lesson and predealt hands.
- Delma Murray is an ACBL Accredited 4 Star Bridge Teacher & Director, Better Bridge Accredited Teacher and American Bridge Teachers Association Professional Member. She offers a variety of courses at Monterey Centre in Oak Bay. - Duncan Smith is a Grand Life Master, the highest rank in the ACBL. He presents a pre-game lesson at 6:30 each Wednesday evening at the Victoria Bridge Centre and at 11:45 each Thursday at Island Bridge Club.
- Ewa Zwicky is an accredited teacher who does private lessons for intermediate or advanced players in small groups (4-8). She specializes in teaching 2/1, cuebidding and defence.
