Welcome to the North Simcoe Bridge and games Club

SHORT HISTORY

In 1985, the Legion Contract Players was formed and in 1988 was sanctioned by the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) and became the Midland Bridge Club.  In 2015, we moved into our own home at 427 William Street, a one-level building that is wheelchair accessible.  Tables, chairs and bidding boxes are left in place at all times.  A Board of Directors runs the club.  Our books are annually reviewed and presented at our yearly AGM held in November or December.  We use wireless Bridge Pads to record scores and overall scores and rankings can be seen at the end of the game, or later on the website. (www.bridgewebs.com/midland)

MEMBERSHIP

This club is sanctioned by the ACBL which means players, who are also members of the ACBL, can accumulate Master Points.  A membership costs $20 per year. While non-members are welcome to play at our club for $7.00 per game, members’ fees are reduced to $5.00 per game.  This game fee includes coffee, tea and treats.  Bottled water can be purchased for $0.50 and other soft drinks for $1.00. As a member, your email address will be added to our newsletter distribution list, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.  Nametags are available for purchase.

As a member, you are expected to arrive with a partner, 15 minutes prior to commencement with your game fee in hand.  Our club is a friendly group and all members are expected to conduct themselves accordingly.  There is no dress code and service animals are welcome.  Please see below for more information about our club.

THE FULL DECK

On Thursdays, The Full Deck uses our facility to host their duplicate game from 1pm to approximately 4:30pm.  The Full Deck is a non-sanctioned friendly group who have their own $4.00 game fees.  If you are interested in more information about The Full Deck, contact Paul Parent by email jandpparent [@] gmail.com or just join them with your partner on Thursdays.

PARKING

Our parking lot is shared with the Huronia Gymnastics Club where lots of children are coming and going.  We ask our players NOT to park directly in front of the Gymnastics Club and to be vigilant and cautious at all times to ensure the safety of the children.

The parking lot is ploughed throughout the winter but can still be icy and slippery.  Therefore, during those winter months, please walk with caution.

There are two designated “wheelchair” parking spots directly in front of the door.

WINTER BOOTS

During the winter months, players are asked to remove their outdoor boots and change into indoor footwear.  This will help to keep our floors dry, clean and safe.

MUGS

Members can bring in their own identified mugs and hang them on our special mug-hook wall.  No other player should use these identified mugs.  Members are expected to clean their own mugs and hang them back on the wall.  There are unidentified mugs available for general use, which also need to be cleaned and replaced before you leave.  Because we are a private members club, you can use your mug to drink whatever beverage you like.

CLEAN UP

While we do hire a floor and washroom cleaner, we do NOT have designated kitchen cleaners and coffee preparers.  Therefore, we expect all members to do their part, as they are able, to help prepare coffee and tea, fill the fridge with water and soft drinks, and get out the treats, then help to clean up after.

LIBRARY

We have a little library of both bridge books and popular novels from which you may borrow, on an honour system, at any time.
