BBO MATCH MBC V CHICHESTER BRIDGE CLUB - TUESDAY 17TH MARCH 2026 AT 7.00PM
We have been challenged to a match on BBO against Chichester Bridge Club on Tuesday 17th March 2026.
We need 24 players of all shapes and sizes! The only requirement is you need to know how to play on BBO.
We play in groups of 4 with our top players (by NGS grade) playing their 4 top players and so on down the line. A bit like the Ryder and Solheim Cups!
Please can you email Mike Fairclough on mikecde@gmail.com if you wouid like to play for MBC on that date, preferably with your partner's name and please can you include your BBO names? If you haven’t got a partner we will try to find you one.
Priority will be given to MBC members up until Friday 23rd January. After that date invitations will be extended to members of other local clubs to play for us as guests.
Any questions ring Mike on 07805778531
MBC COMMITTEE
Table Money
It would very much be appreciated if members could bring the right table money to the Club in pound coins or 50p coins. Alternatively we can give change for £5 and £10 notes.
But we are sorry to say that we are no longer able to accept loose change of smaller denominations.
We would also ask that payment for coffee be made in pound or 50p coins.
With thanks for your help.

Tuesday afternoon session - Change of Time 1.00pm
Please note that from Tuesday 6th January 2026, our Tuesday session will commence at 1.00pm. In the past we have had to consider Slimming World who were on the premises and using the car park but they have moved to another location. We now have no time restrictions on the car park, so can move to a more civilised afternoon start time closer to the time we used to start at when we were at Borough Road
JIM FEARNS
Members will be sad to learn that Jim Fearns died earlier this month.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday 13th January at 11.00am at the Hope Farm Road Methodist Church, Great Sutton CH66 2LF.
Jim was a long standing member of the Club and our thoughts are with Jim’s family and friends at this sad time.
May Jim rest in peace.
Waterworth Cup
The Waterworth Cup is the County's annual pairs championship.
This year's event will be held on BBO on Friday 16th January 2026, starting at 17.30.
It is intended that the event will be run as an all-play-all Howell competition of around 36-39 boards using standard pairs scoring with a mid-session break of 20 minutes & no robots allowed! The precise format will be determined by the number of entries received and the limitations of BBO.
Full details and the online registration form to enter can be found on the county website:-
https://www.bridgewebs.com/merseysidecheshire/
As always, green points are awarded to the top half of the field. The top three eligible pairs also get the chance to represent the county in the national pairs championship for the Corwen Trophy in May.
Monday evening session - Change of Time 7:15pm
Please note that from Monday 15th December, 2025, our Monday session will commence at 7:15pm with the aim of finishing the session at approximately 10:00pm. In the past we have had to consider the scout troupe who were on the premises and using the car park but they have moved to another location. We now have no time restrictions on the car park, so members who need to park close to the hall can enter the car park earlier than before.
2025 AGM
The papers for the 2025 AGM can be found in the Documents section of the website and include the Minutes, the Chairman's Report and the Income and Expenditure for the last year.
CLUB SECURITY
In order to protect members from unwanted intruders the Committee has decided the outer door to the Church hall should be locked at the start of each bridge session.
It will still be possible for members to open the door from the inside simply by using the push bar.
STANDBYS
Standbys are now available on a Monday evening.
If you do not have a partner please advise the director at least 15 minutes before the due start time.
At that time the standby will be allocated with someone else looking for a partner and, if not required he/she will go home.
WHATSAPP GROUP
Any member requiring a partner may find it helpful to put a message on the Club's WhatsApp Group. Any member not on the group is welcome to join and should contact Chris Griffin - 07754-047853 -e in the first instance.
Chris will also be happy to post an appropriate message on behalf of a member unable to do so themselves.
ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION
The annual subscription has been reduced to £12.00 with effect from 23.05.22. Please adjust your standing order accordingly.
COVID
It is recommended that members take a lateral flow test before playing F2F bridge at the Club.
We would also ask members not to attend if there is any suggestion they have a viral infection, cough or cold.
