February 29th |
 Today being February 29th and a leap year we decided to have a Ladies vs Gents day, with a twist. Every time a Lady had a toucher they got an extra 2 shots. While the men got one shot for a toucher. We had a group photo with those who stayed and the Ladies won by 2 shots over the men. Thanks to Jeffo and Marilyn for joining the ladies today.

 On a wonderful sunny morning we started with a spot prize spider. Our winner who had 5 euros from Mercian Travel was Malcolm Dilley.

 Fixed Jack Tuesday played on a Wednesday due to a change of day off, after the rain on Monday. Ladies winner today was Judith Wheeler and our gents winner was Jerry Daly.

 Lovely to see all the rinks being used today. We also started bright and early for some first round games of our singles competition. Winners of our round robin this morning were, Dorothy James for the ladies and the gents, Jerry Daly and George Watson tied.

 Mystery Pairs this morning. As the name suggests players did not know their partner until the end of the game. Judith & Verna scored 29 shots between them but they were pipped at the post by todays winners. Pat Dean & Jeff Lewin who scored 30.

 It was pleasing to see a nice number of players on the green this morning. After a spider we played a straightforward round robin. Ladies' winner of the day Pat Dean was spotted playing some excellent shots, as did our gents winner George Watson.

 First thing this morning we had a "Spot Prize Spider" and the winner, Wendy Stevens is pictured receiving her prize from Mercian Travels, Sam Tyers. We were pleased to have Sam and Gary from Mercian Travel join us on the green as they are over for a short working visit.

 A rare chilly & windy start to our "Move It Day". We moved from our regular rinks, players had to move the mat away from the tee and change playing position after every 4 ends. Ladies winner was Ruth Carey and we had a tie for the men, Jerry Daly & Jeff Lewin. Thanks to those who braved the wind. Luckily the wind dropped and we ended up with sunshine and clear skies.

 A straightforward normal triple's today. The ladies all scored well but Ruth Carey came out on top. For the gents it was George Watson.

 Fixed Jack Tuesday today, scoring 4,3,2,1. Once again it was very close with the scores with some exciting ends. Todays winners were Ruth Carey and Jeff Lewin.

 Today we decided to play Australian 2,4,2. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and all games were very close. Our eventual ladies winner was Ruth Carey and our gents winner, Jeff Lewin.

 We held a round robin on another glorious day and today's winners were Pat Dean and Kevin Holden. We were pleased for Kevin as he joined us as a non bowler, each day we could see the improvement in his game.

 It was a beautiful sunny morning to hold a "Mystery Pairs Day". When all the scores were added up the winning couple were Pat Dean and Jeff Lewin.

 As the results today were so close we decided to take a group photo of all those within two shots of the winners, Pat Dean and Dorothy James (pictured in the centre with the local fauna).

 It was a "fixed Jack" day today, with a 4,3,2,1 scoring system. Continuing on from her success earlier in the day our ladies winner was Dorothy James & our gents winner, Arthur Gray.

 Today started with the open singles final. It was a close well played match with both players level going into the final end. Our eventual winner was Dorothy James and our gallant runner up was Jayne Fisher.

 On a busy Valentine's day triples extra points were awarded for wearing red and anyone who bowled a toucher also gained an extra shot. Our gents tied winners of the day were John Arnstrong and Arthur Gray and our outright ladies winner, Ruth Carey. At the end of the morning Mo gave all the gents a heart shaped chocolate and the ladies were given a little gift bag by Malc.

 After playing the semi finals of the singles we started our normal day with a Valentines spot prize. The winner, Brian Nicholls received 5 euros from Mercian Travel.

 This morning we completed our last 1/4 final singles match before playing our 1,2,3 swap positions triples games. Our outright winners this morning winning all their matches were Kevin Holden who just played the first match and replaced by Malc. Our other two winners who are pictured trying to limbo out of shot are David Middleton and Jayne Fisher.

 This morning we played Triples with a 4,3,2,1, score system. We thought we had a clear ladies winner but Jayne Fisher and Co had a great final four ends which enabled her to win by one shot. Our gents winner was Arthur Gray who was consistent all day.

 No bowls today as storm Karlotta decided to deposit some well needed rain. A quiz and bridge was put on for those who wished. Our Singles Final due to be played on the 9th was played on Saturday 10th. It was a really close game between David and John and an extra end was needed to decide the winner, David Middleton.
