Marple Duplicate Bridge Club
By-Laws and Regulations
1. At the end of the evening North/South are responsible for returning tables to the store
and East/West for stacking chairs at the side of the room. If they are physically unable
to do so they should seek assistance from another player.
2. It is the responsibility of all players to ensure that windows are closed and that tables,
boards, bidding boxes and other items are stored properly before they leave.
3. Either pair has the option to cut the cards for position at the table. Cutting the cards
for position will be required by the Director on the occasion of the Francis Wyatt Cup
competition (normally played for in November).
4. Play will not continue after 10.50 p.m. except at the discretion of the Director.
5. On the Director’s call to move to the next table hands not already in play must be
passed on. Hands are deemed to be in play once bidding has commenced.
6. Due to the constraints of space and in the interests of safety, the maximum permitted
number of players on any night will be restricted to 66 (i.e. 16.5 tables). In the event
that more than 66 players attend then the following rules will be applied by the
Director whose decision will be final:
a) Pairs consisting solely of non-members will be asked to leave (the latest or
later arrivals leaving first).
b) If there are still more than 66 players then pairs consisting of one member and
one non-member will be asked to leave (the latest or later arrivals leaving
first).
c) If there are still more than 66 players then pairs consisting of two members
will be asked to leave (the latest complete pairs to arrive leaving first).
d) One member of a pair arriving before 7.20 p.m. may reserve a place for his/her
partner but pairs that are incomplete by 7.25 p.m. will be substituted by a
waiting pair.
7. It is the Director’s responsibility to deal with slow play and the Director’s decisions
are final. Members are expected to comply with the guidance issued from time to time
by the Committee.
8. The Director’s decision on any matter concerning play or scoring is final.
9. The Teams Cup will normally be played for in July and will be limited to a maximum
of 13 Teams entered in advance.
10. Only members of the Club are eligible to win competitions.
