Online Etiquette
Best Behaviour - Please follow these guidelines to help you, your partner and your oppostion to enjoy the game.

COURTESY TO FELLOW PLAYERS

Our online bridge at Marley Grange is confined to members and their invited guests.  As a courtesy to your fellow players please put your full proper name in your BBO Profile.

COMMUNICATING YOUR SYSTEM

At the start of each round communicate your basic system to your opponents using the CHAT facility, use shorthand, if you wish, as in these examples:

Weak and 4

Strong and 5, club may be 0 / 1 / 2      F or NF

Strong and 5, better minor

AN INCORRECT BID

If you make a wrong or incorrect bid, you must remain silent.  Do not use chat to tell the Table you have clicked a wrong bid.

If you communicate then you give your partner unauthorised information.

UNDOs are not permitted in online tournament play.

ALERTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Player is responsible for Alerting or Announcing their own bids.

Rules for alerting and announcing are the same as those when we are playing at a table.

To alert, simply click the ALERT button within the “bidding box”, then make your bid.  Do not explain unless the opposition request an explanation.

To request an explanation of any bid made by the opposition just click on the bid and wait for the opposition to respond.

To announce, type the message within the “bidding box” then make your bid.

Alertable Calls

Any call that is a convention, including Strong or Weak two level opening bids.  The ACOL 2C opening is the only 2 level opening bid that need not be alerted.

Any bid that is natural but unexpectedly weak e.g. a weak jump overcall.

Any artificial bid i.e. a bid that means something other than what it suggests.

A forcing raise of a natural opening one of a suit.

A forcing 1C opening bid needs to be alerted.

Announcements

A 1NT opening should be announced giving the precise point range.
