Alerting - At the start of every round each pair MUST inform their opponents of their basic system (e.g. forcing club, strength of no trump opening, length of major suit opening) and their carding methods and in particular any unusual opening for which opponents may need to prepare.

Shorthand may be used on BBO to describe your basic system e.g.

• weak & 4
• weak & 5 better minor (taken to mean at least 3 clubs or diamonds)
• Strong & 5 forcing club, may be as short as "0" "1" "2"
• strong & 5 2+ club non-forcing OR strong & 5, 2+C NF

Alertable Calls

1. Any call that is a convention
2. Any bid that is natural but unexpectedly weak
3. A forcing raise of a natural opening of one of a suit

For clarification - a forcing 1C opening needs to be alerted.
