MARKEATON BRIDGE CLUB

The History of the Club
Markeaton Bridge Club was formed in 1965 by John Robshaw
at the old Markeaton Bowls Club premises, formerly a golf club house situated on Kedleston Road.
On development of the land into flats the club re-located to the White Hart function room at Duffield.
The hostelry was sold and was to remain vacant for some time and the Bridge Club was forced to move again.
Fortunately, premises nearby became available at the British Legion on Tamworth St.where the Bridge Club were happily situated for quite some time.
However, eventually a further move was forced upon the Club. This time to a purpose built Club within the grounds.
Again it was fortunate that a room for hire became available.
This was still not the end of our travels over the years.
The Riverside Club, where the Club were happily installed, closed due to financial difficulties and once again the Bridge Club were out in the cold.
How lucky the Club were to find the Weston Centre could accommodate us immediately and it is hoped that, long may this continue.
